Photography Question

Selling through your website

Has anyone here tried selling their work through their website?

Just curious as to the effectiveness of it.

I could easily get an eBay store up and running and a matter of minutes but was wondering if it's worth the trouble...

TIA for any responses.

I've sold a few through my website but not many. I get quite a few enquiries which don't lead anywhere - I think the main problem is not being geared up to take credit card transactions. This is something which I'm addressing at the moment, and also looking at a 'shopping cart' system.

  Thanks for the response Vincent!

I think that going through eBay gives you the ability to take Credit Card if you have a PayPal Account, which I do. So, I'm going to have to look into this further.

Happy Holidays!

Yes, I've signed up with Paypal and also NoChex (they're UK based - debit cards only). I recently sold three prints to someone in the US using Paypal and it all went through very smoothly, though my bank charged me a ridiculous amount for converting to sterling (banks - don'tcha just luv 'em!). Paypal will now deal in sterling though so I shouldn't have that problem again.

Happy Holidays to you too!

I didn't even think about the currency conversion, but you're right about that!

So, when you sell items, do you have them contact you via email or have you set up some type of e-store?

At the moment I just ask them to email me for details. I've recently transferred to my own domain and want to set up some sort of e-store on the new site. The new domain is hosted by my brother who has a computer company in Scotland and he has branched out into web hosting. I shall be staying with them over the holidays, so we will playing with CGI shopping cart scripts I expect! If you want to email me directly for more info, you can get my email address off my website - www.lowefoto.com
