BetterPhoto did the same thing last month. Waited till the end of the month and had to rush through EPs, SF, Finalist and Winners. Hate when they do that. Takes some of the fun out of BetterPhoto for me.

The Editor's Picks have been very erratic in timing lately. Since the "Editor" is singular in the description, does Jim do all the judging and picking for the contest? Is he the only Staff to select the Staff favorites as well? If so, can it be thorough and fair when only 10 days remain for the choices to be made in the November contest? Does that reduce the value of a win at BP?

Wally / Harriet, I've seen this in the past...the mad dash to the finish line for the EPs, SFs, and finalists. But each and every month, BP always comes through and gets them done. True, some will say that the mad dash means they skip some good photos. But they could skip them just as easily if they did it in a more orderly manner. The good news is that they're not going thru 40,000 images like they did years ago. I think they're averaging 5000 to 6000 contest entries, so it doesn't take as long to go through them. It's frustrating to many that they don't do it in a more orderly fashion. But they've often delayed the judging. I do think they don't have as many judges as they used too (could be just Jim or Denise), but I do believe they'll finish them before the end of the year. I used to live and die for the EPs...but I've since learned to just relax and enjoy the contest for what it is. I think we'll see some movement on EPs very soon. And it wouldn't surprise me to see SFs around Dec 28th, Finalists on the 29th, and winners on the 30th.

That's all well and good and even sounds good too. However, when one enters and enters and does not get any feedback for weeks it is frustrating any way you look at it. It is also disturbing. It makes one think that there are problems behind the scene and that BP may be slipping by the wayside. That's my real concern.

Jim has consistently got the finalists and winners in By the last day of the month for quite some time. I suspect this trend will continue. We will probably see them posted again on the last day in December. For all we know they may very well already have been determined and just not released. What I do believe is that the quality of photos that make it to the top are all consistently high quality. Not that other photos are not, just that the winners are well deserved and impressive! I enjoy the contest. I enjoy my photography. I enjoy viewing all of the winning photos. Hey, Merry Christmas all!

What I'm hearing from many of the comments is not concern that the judging will not be done before the end of the month. Rather, I hear them talk about loss. They feel the quality of the contest experience is tarnished. They don't have the time to enjoy the appearance of EPs throughout the month. They use to check often to see how things were progressing. Now, don't bother until deadline. Also they feel devalued as their work and their contest appears to be of little interest to BP. It's now a task that takes a few days to complete because they said they would do it by the end of the month. So although some of you are correct that we've seen it before and it will get done. To many that IS the problem.

Bill, very good points. In the good ole days, EPs were handed out consistently and at a consistent rate; e.g., 70%. I'd prefer they return to this approach too.
