Assignment i am doing a assignment. do you have examples of how to shoot a scene that has good range of tonal values with deep shadows and bright highlights? I have a Nikkor 18-55mm kit lens, Nikkor 55-200mm and a Sigma 150-500mm. Please any help will be welcome

I would think that you would have to look for a scene with this vast tonal range. For example, I have seen photos of the Palouse and I have photographed in Tuscany. I know that one most likely cannot pick up and go to the Palouse or Tuscany but the scene has to have the tonal range in order to capture it. After this, perhaps bracketing shots would be in order. At the very least, make sure you don't have any blown out areas. Then you can work with these tones. If you use Lightroom or Photoshop you can enhance colors and tones by "Painting" .

I would shoot early - like go for a sunrise shoot and then stay on a bit or late (reverse it in the afternoon/evening). And I would do a search on photography with wide tonal range and then read what comes up and look at the images that come up, too.

Stage lighting can give you want you need. Any festival or amateur band playing some where, especially outside will be more photographer friendly as far as allowing photographs to be taken. If that's not available, anything with dramatic side lighting. Doesn't have to just be during the day. A city a night and all it's neon lights (or they're probably LED lights now) is a good thing to shoot.
