Photography Question

Joanne Kramer

Earning points

I think there would be more comments if people would get points if they commented on a photo, and later it would get an EP. That way we could predict EPs by recognizing good jobs. It would also be more of an incentive to view photos and leave a comment.

I myself would not be in favor of that, I work full time, climb and ski in the winter, oh yea then there is the house and yard work, lucky for me I always have my camera with me. That being said there are moments when I have some spare time and I have always enjoyed going through photos, commenting on them, learning from them and being inspired by them to get out again with my camera. We should not have to be rewarded to comment on a photo, we should just see a great capture, be inspired and comment. I myself have been inspired by many at Better Photo, through their photos, my photography has grown, that alone is all the reward I need.
If your photos are well captured you will be rewarded, which is what it is all about, not how many comments a person makes.......just my opinion, for what it is worth.

I agree with Karen. BP is supposed to be a place that recognizes photos for their artistic or technical merits, not for the "love" they get (whether that be in the form of Favorites or Comments). Truthfully, if that was ever to be instated, I would be out of here.

I absolutely agree with Karen. I photograph and comment on images when I have time and yes … when I am in the mood for all that. After all it’s not my job, it’s just a wonderful hobby. I am sure a lot of BP photographers think like me. So, if people do not comment on my pictures (and it happens pretty often) I do not get upset because I myself don’t have plenty of time for that either. Besides, I am not sure what these points are for, because comments or no comments I get plenty of Ep’s (100% for June). What’s more, even some winning photographs do not have any comments and “love” signs. So I guess the judges look at the images differently than we are and the quality of the photographs is much more important than our comments.

Most people don't comment just because they like the photo. They comment on the photos of those who comment on their photos, or on their friends photos. I'm with Nikki. If it becomes a popularity contest that wouldn't be good. I avoid places where they vote on photos, for the most part, if that's their only criteria.
