June Countdown Thread

It's that time of the month again!
Welcome to the June Countdown Thread:

I am looking forward to seeing your favorite photos from your BP posts last month. Please join me in sharing with our BP friends.

*If you are a regular here you know what to do.

**If you are new to this thread, take some time to read our helpful hints below and join in the fun.

*** If you found yourself here because you are lost.... Hmmm.., Don't worry, this is not the Hotel California, you can escape!

Some helpful hints for attaching photos into a BP Forum Thread, if you're unfamiliar with the process:
1) Sign into BP. IF YOU HAVEN'T entered the Contest for today, you can use the "Photo ID" method to pull an existing image (from your Member Center) into your reply here.
a. Jot down the PhotoID # of the photo you wish to share. To determine your PhotoID, go to the little Pancakes icon, then click “My Photos”, then “Manage/Enter.” The PhotoID is right below the number.
b. Go to the Countdown Contest thread. Click “Respond” at the bottom of the page.
c. Type in whatever you wish; e.g., “Here’s my Fav image for the month.”

d. Click the “Select” button below the text input box, and select “1.” Toggle on “Notify” box if you wish to be notified. Click “Submit.”

e. The Image Uploader appears. On the right-hand side, you’ll see an input box for the PhotoID (from step 1a). Type it in then click “submit your photo.” Then, return to the forum thread and you’ll see your photo.

2) IF YOU HAVE ALREADY entered the Contest for today, you can't use the Photo ID method *today*. Either wait until tomorrow to reply here first, or upload a copy of the image (from your PC) and attach to this thread. This produces a duplicate image in your Member Center; however, you don't have to make that duplicate visible in your Gallery.

3) If you're uploading a duplicate, I suggest titling it "For Forum" so it stands out in your Member Center, for easier housecleaning later on. This can also help nudge BP viewers to go find the original image in your gallery, if they want to leave a comment. Likewise, if you want to add a comment to a photo seen here, first try to tell if it is a duplicate upload. As a courtesy, try to find the original image in the member's gallery and leave your comment there instead of on the duplicate... which may one day be deleted.

Errick

A thought just hit me. We have been wondering why the POTD are from months, even years, past. Well, perhaps because of the time constraint and the new rule, there may not be very many POTD quality photos. Here is my favorite for June and although it is ok, it is not POTD material. It has been so hot that I have not felt like doing too much. Anyway, just my take and I could be wrong....It happens...a lot more lately.

Thanks Errick for starting the thread.

I will be away during remaining part of the month, so I'll just say CONGRATZ to all who will get SFs, Fs, and Ws in the June contest.

I am showcasing two this month, both taken during my recent trip to Europe.

Cindy Koller   Harriet,

The POD's from earlier time started long before the new 'stupid' rule. Also, I've seen some fantastic photos displayed in the last 2 months. I'm making no excuses for BP's misleading and ingenuous POD from contest.

Corner Stones
Corner Stones of the John Write Stanly home in New Bern, NC, circa 1779. A Revolutionary War leader and later congressman. Stanly was forced to leave New Bern after being a victorious winner of a duel with Richard Dobbs Spaight, a signer of the Constitution. Spaight succumbed on the forth trade of ballistics. Dueling was henceforth outlawed in North Carolina. Later this home became the headquarters of General Ambrose Burnside of the Federalist during the Civil War. Burnside was a decisive leader of Union troops early , esp at the Battle of Bull Run. His war career in NC was less successful as 13,000 blue coats lost their lives in unsuccessful attempts at derailing General Lee. Burnsides most notable attribute, the Father of Sideburns. This photo entered into the Black and White Theme day, Group 101.

Some of the ones I THOUGHT would get to the SF or Finalist rounds didn't even get SFs. It's a crazy world sometimes. ;-) [just happy to have something in the Final round] GOOD LUCK to everyone!

The "Jackpot" email I got just says I got a "Jackpot of appreciation", and there is no "badge" on the photo....so, I assume it has to do with the number of "I love it"s.

Jackpot means your photo got selected by one of the judges. It's a way to recognize greatness even if your overall score doesn't send your photo into the top 111.

If you got that, Congratulations!

Jim, is "jackpot" the same as awhile back, when we got an e-mail saying a judge "commented" on one of our photos? Or are there other factors that go into the Jackpot determination? Thanks.
