What does EOS mean? What does the Canon term EOS stand for?

Per the company history at the Canon online camera museum (http://www.canon.com/camera-museum/index.html), "The development project was called "EOS (Electro Optical System)." The "EOS" is also the name of the goddess of dawn in Greek mythology, even more apropos for the new-generation SLR camera."

As a Canon fan who got left out in the cold with manual focus FD lenses that don't fit current cameras, I'd think EOS stands for Enable Obsolescence Sooner.
