Sigma 400 5.6 Apo Hsm Macro Lens

Hello,

I was wondering whether anyone knows something or has personal experience with the Sigma 400 5.6 Apo Hsm Macro lens... I could acquire one for a very reasonable price, but found only one review on it online (that was positive - it said the lens is very sharp). also, is this lens the same as the Sigma 400 5.6 Apo lens, or is there a difference (here, I guess I have to ask what Apo and Hsm means, since I couldn't find an answer to that, either). I own a Canon EOS 10s, and I'd use that lens to photograph lava flows (Hawaii) and some wildlife.
If you have a better choice (within a lower price-range, since I am on a tight budget), I'd be very thankful to learn about that, too.

Thanks,

Tamara

I don't have personal experience with that particular lens, but with respect to Sigma naming conventions:
(per http://www.sigmaphoto.com/html/lenses.htm )

APO = Apochromatic. These lenses have 1 or more Special Low Dispersion glass (SLD) for minimum color aberration and ultimate telephoto image quality, improving contrast and sharpness.

HSM = Hyper-Sonic Motor. This refers to the autofocus motor. It is similar to Canon's USM and is available in some of Sigma's lenses for EOS and Nikon.
