What kind of Lense I am looking into purchasing a mid-range zoom (70-300mm) lense for my Minolta Maxxum 5. I take a lot of pictures of the ocean and surfers. I was wondering what would be a good, reasonably priced choice. Is the quality of a Minolta lense that much better than that of Tamron/Sigma etc.?

Hi L!, I asked the same question about a week ago. You can view the answers that I got by looking under new questions Tamron vs Nikkor lenses. In the end I bought a Tamron and am in the process of trying it out...i,ll let you know the results when I get my first rolls back.

Hi L, Minolta, Sigma and Tamron 75-300mm are similar lens. Medium quality, compact and light weight for use with a small Dynax 5. What about Sigma APO lens? Or Minolta 100-300 APO. If they were not out of reasonably price range, they would be better choice. George.
