Impressionism and Jim Zuckerman I recently visited Jim Zuckerman's Web site through Betterphoto.com, and there were photos in his gallery of impressionism. I was wondering if you can do this type of effect all with your camera or if it is done on a computer? I also wanted to know what type of course would I take to learn more on how to do these type of photographs. I am wanting to take my photography to a much broader level. I want to do more than just portraits, and I want to be more creative... find my style. As I looked through these photos and many others I have realised this is what I want to be able to do with my photography. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated, and to Jim Zuckerman - you are an inspiration.

Many of them look Photoshopped to me. Why don't you contact Mr. Zuckerman and ask him. He has contact info on his website.

I tried to e-mail Mr. Zuckerman and I got a failure. I don't know if it's my end or his.

I think this was done in Photoshop too, and for me to take the course I need quite a bit of money just to get the software. I want to take online courses being I am a full-time mom. I will probably start out with the creative class, I want to get a definite style of my own, and get more creative.

Mary Jo... I recently got one of his books and he does use Photoshop and Procreate Paint. He starts with darn good images from the beginning, though. I agree his work is an inspiration. Photoshop is expensive, but I love it for playing around with photos. As for the creativity bit, you already have it. Happy shooting :~)

Thank You Christina. I will have to save and invest in Photoshop, I see most everybody uses it. And then take Jim Miotke's Photoshop for Photographers class.

Stephanie, What course did you do? Was it through Betterphoto? I am looking forward to starting soon. I would like to take each of the courses here and then take studio lighting at my community college so I can work with there equipment before I purchase all the lighting equipment. I am hoping to open an in home studio.

I took Learning to see Creatively with Bryan Peterson and I am starting his Understanding Exposure course next month. I might take Kerry Drager's course after that, but hope to start marketing my work soon. I tend to lean towards natural light versus studio light so I can't help you there. The courses are really fun, but a lot of work. I think you will enjoy them and you will learn a lot! Let me know what you decide and I will help out if I can.

Hi Mary Jo - I am glad to see you signed up for my Beginning Photography course. You're going to love it! And in case I have not told you this yet, look into Photoshop Elements before buying the expensive full version of Photoshop. It is a great program and costs a fraction of the price. Lastly - a note to all you Jim Zuckerman fans: I think you are going to be excited when you see the BetterPhoto course offerings for the Winter 2003 session...

Mary Jo -- If you order PS Elements 2.0 (I just did) from Amazon before September 1 or 4 (forget which, but it's this weekend), you'll get an extra $40 off, plus free delivery. That, coupled with the manufacturers rebate that comes in the box ($30), and you save over 70%, and pay a total of only $29 for a LOT of Photoshop functionality that could otherwise cost hundreds.

Thank You George, my husband get's paid on Friday so that should work out perfectly. I really appreciate you letting me know, because at $99.00 I was still going to have to wait awhile before purchasing. Thank You again!
