Photography Question

Simon Riddle

why are some of my pictures so grainy and noisy

some of my photos I developed have come out really grainy and not sharp at all, I used a selection of lenses but I think I used the tele zoom lense the most, I also had them developed in under an hour does this effect them or is it my film, camera or photo techniques?

What kind of ISO film do you use (800, 1600)?..do you consider yourself a beginner?...

It also could be your technique!...

Hi cheers for answering, and yes I am a beginner, the film I use is 400 I think?
I own a canon eos 1x7 with a canon ultrasonic lense and a sigma macro lense.
I think most of the pixilated (unsure of spelling) grainy photos I got developed were when I used the ultrasonic lense, they also quite dark, but on quite a sunny day. I'm off to buy a tripod and a book on photography, but any other suggestions on how to stop pictures being so grainy would be helpful and also save me money. cheers.
Oh yer is it true developing pictures in an hour is bad and why?
cheers!

Simon, it depends on where you take your film to get developed. Most one hour labs like in wal-mart and rite aid don't do color ar density corrections, while there are a few that will do this to make sure you get great prints. My suggestion to you would be to ask where you take them if they do color correcting or density corrections, and if they check their machines on a daily basis to make sure the chemicals have not been contaminated and to make sure there are no broken pieces.
