what make my camera snap twice when i take a pictu

I was at a wedding and at first my camera was working properly then all of a sudden it started snapping two times every time I focus and snap it sounds like the shutter is clicking two times. Will this destroy my7 pictures. Also, the counter still work properly and rewind work well as well. Please HELP!!
Will my pictures be a mess when I go and develop them.

  Twynette,
You didn't mention what make/model of camera you have, or the make/model of flash you were using. Without that it's harder to tell what may have happened. A couple of possibilities come to mind though:

(a) I presume it has a motorized winder. If it does, check what mode it's in. Nearly all newer cameras with built-in motor winders have a "sequence" mode in which the camera continues firing frames as long as the shutter release is held down. If it's in "sequence" mode and you hold your finger down long enough, it can fire two frames at a time. A symptom of this is hearing the winder advance the film more than once, in addition to hearing the shutter fire twice.

(b) If the camera is in an auto-exposure mode and an integral or TTL type flash (flash output controlled by the camera) is not providing enough light, it could be holding the shutter open longer until enough light for a "proper exposure" has reached the film (based on the camera's AE system). The first sound would be the shutter opening and the second sound the shutter closing. Weddings typically demand much more light from flash than average "home" use. Camera-to-subject distances are often 1-1/2 times farther and the spaces are much larger. Much less light reaches a more distant subject and much less of it bounces back onto the subject(s) from walls and ceiling. In this case, you would only hear the winder advance the film once, just after the shutter closes.

Beyond this there is likely something wrong with the camera. The only way to find out if your pictures are a mess is to have the film developed. You will likely be able to sort out much more about what happened looking at the negatives.

  hi john,
Thanks for your help, but I kind of solved my problem by seeing the negative, they were blank. So this means I need to take my minolta maxxum 3xi camera to a shop. also find a very nice and repectable way of telling the bride and groom that most of there pictures did not process. this is one experience I will learn from. is there an easy way to this? I am really sad because every picture came out except the ones that is important, like bride cutting cake, toasting, bridesmaides, dance, cakes. see what I mean? I know this has happen to someone else beside myself. what's an answer, please help!!!

You did not mention you were hired or just taking photos as a friend. If you were friend to the groom and bride, you probably know other people who were also taking photos that night. You may ask them nicely if they can let you use the negatives and get reprints to supplement your missing photos. Ask as many as you know and pick the ones you think are presentable. Of course you have to let the bride and groom know that those photos are not yours. Hope this helps.
