Blurry Shots entered into Contest.

I just entered a sharp image, and when I went to upload it to the contest, it appeared as a blurry shot. Is anyone else having this issue?

Thanks,

Jane Miller

Jane, what are the pixel dimensions of the photo you uploaded?

In the past, BP resized any photo that was greater than 800 pixels on the long side. For example, if you uploaded an image 3200 pixels by 2400 pixels, BP would resize to 800 x 600, keeping aspect ratio the same.

Years ago, BP even stated it might be better for folks to upload at 800 pixels on the long side, even though they're upload instructions continue to say 1600 pixels (going off memory).

Main point...if you are uploading larger-sized photos, BP's downsizing routine may cause this blurriness. Hard to say, but it's worth a try to upload at 800 pixels just to compare.

Ken,

I have had a few busy crazy busy days and have not check the discussions. The size is no doubt the problem. I will recheck the image. I had entered some later and they were just fine.

Thanks for your quick answer. I will check it out tonight.

Jane

According to Jim, the new recommended picture size is 1600 pix. That was made when the BP 2.0 was released last year.

I have always been submitting my images at 800 pixels since 2009 and don't see any issues with sharpening/blurring even after the BP 2.0 version release.

Bill, even though BP recommends 1600 pixels, the size they display is 800 pixels so their process downsizes it. I'd rather downsize myself and sharpen a tad rather than having the BP process do it. Overall, it's probably not a big deal which way folks choose.

I went back and checked the past images that were "blurry" in my opinion, after uploading them to BetterPhoto, and sure enough they were much larger than even the max 1600. I have been uploading images to this contest for years and why that information did not stick in my brain I have no clue. But, wow did it make a difference. I guess maybe that is one more place in my brain where the cobwebs are cleaned out. Amazing what a day makes. Thanks guys!! Owe Ya!! Jane

I'm going to change the 1600 answer. We were going for that but it did not pan out.

Please continue to upload at 800.

Feel free to email me any pages that you find that still say 1600 pixels.

Thanks!
