Taking pictures of a solar eclipse


As far as can see, there r two major issues.
1. Shooting into the sun could blind you
2. getting the right exposure

can someone suggest
1. film speed
2. a way to safe gaurd the eyes
3. any tips and tricks

there is a major eclipse in Dec down here in the south and I am keen to shoot it.... !
