Lens Error Message

When I put my Tamron 80-210 lens on my Canon XTi, I can one picture, and on the second try I get the message "shooting is not possible. Turn the power switch to off and on again or reinstall the battery." If I reinstall, it will take one photo and the message reappears the next time I push the shutter button. If we put it on our XSi, the message just says the lens has "lost communication." Any idea what might be wrong? We rarely use the lens, so an expensive fix isn't in the cards.

Suggest cleaning the contacts of the Tamron lens as it might have got deposits because of not much usage. Make sure that the contacts are dry before you put the lens back on the camera body. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Usman - I'll give that a try and see if it works.

Unfortunately, cleaning didn't make it all better - it still takes a single photo and then gives the error message. Looks as if it simply bit the dust for good.

Thats too bad, Monnie. Suggest giving Tamron people a call or just have them checked for any internal damage, before you put this lens away!
