Photography Question

Selling photos for business symbol/logo use?

I have had a request from a small business in Australia (NSW) to use one of my images as a logo/symbol. My questions are, how much do I charge for the use in this case?

Any help will be most appreciated as I have never dealt with a request like this. I am not sure how to handle this and just need some advice and guidance on my options. Thanks in advance.

I can't help you with pricing suggestions, but am curious if you'd had any further discussions with them, done any research on them, etc., and also whether they contacted you after seeing your BP gallery?
I'm a bit overly-suspicious of foreign contacts that come to us via BP visitors; I've had a handful of such contacts over the years, purportedly from outside the US, and they all felt "off" after the first email correspondence (if in some cases, they ever replied to my first reply!) To me, it seems quite odd that a business is browsing my gallery in the first place, looking for a single image they just find to be ideal for their use... But I'm a paranoid kinda person by nature, when it comes to this stuff!! ;)

Like Chris, I'm always skeptical, so first I'd do some Googling to see what I can find out about the company. Assuming it seems legit, I'd write and say you're open to the proposition, but your prices vary depending on image size, whether they want it on a CD, print, etc., and ask them to make the request more specific. I think it's a pretty safe bet that if it's a hoax, or they expect to get it for free, you'll never hear from them again.

Thank you Christopher and Monnie. I live in WA or Western Australia, so they are just in another state. She has given me more emails talking about how they got started and what her aspirations are and so on.

She also said her son is a graphic artist who reiterated what I said "that it is better to use a graphic for logo than a photo".

They found me through the local visitors centre web page which is another story that I wasn't happy about.

So I will try and pursued her to go with the graphic idea, as I am also very cautious too Christopher.

In response to your query Christopher, about how they found me. I have many people request for my work from America and various other countries which I find suspect. I often do not pursue or even respond.

In their emails they say they some how managed to find the exact image they were looking for via google or my Better photo gallery magically popped up through a random search. Which I also do and none of my photos come up. Hmmm strange yeah?

I don't mean to sound harsh but it is very hard these days to trust anyone other than face to face contact. So I remain skeptical at the moment and will delay as long as I can for now. See if they choose the other option of graphic design.
