Photography Question

Camera lenses

I'm about to make an investement in a quality lense. I have been considering the 70-200mm f2.8. I own presently a 70-300mm f4.5 which I am just now learn the sweet spot on this lense and getting nice results with it. I was thinking of the new 85mm f1.4 instead its less diversafied then the 70-200 but the quality of pictures is maximum. Both lenses are Nikon and was also considering Sigma. I'm pretty decide on the 85mm but just wanted to sound that off you guys.

Thanks André

I have the 70-200 f/2.8 and I absolutely love that lens. It is my lens of choice for pretty much everything - but it can get heavy when you carry it around all day. Or maybe I'm just wimpy. :)

  Thanks Pat,

My only decision now is Nikon or Sigma.

Sigma was awarded top lenses in this category for 2011 just like the Nikon lense in 2010. In Canada that's a saving of nearly $900.

I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinion on that.

Thanks André

  Well I bought the Sigma!
From the point of view at looking at a print the results are marginal. The pro at Lozeau's (top retailer in Momtréal), he made a test and put out 20 prints that been made from different lenses and equipment and asked is colleges to guess which print came from what and which print had the best quality results. The results were actually quite suprising the best print chosen came a point and shoot pocket camera.

So the moral of this story it's not so much the equipment but the person behind it that makes the difference.

So for the difference in price I chose the Sigma. It's a monster of a lense and now I have to learn how to get comfortable with this lense.

Thanks so much Pat and Nicholas for your feedback I really appreciate it.

André
