Tips for digital photos of product for web site

I use an Epson PC750Z to take digital photos in a small, makeshift studio for our company's web site. With a limited budget, the staff at National Camera Exchange in Minneapolis recommended that I purchase two Lowel wide-angle Total-lights with 500 watt halogen bulbs, stands, two silver umbrellas, canvas backdrop for portraits, and seamless peper backdrops. Everything has been working great for a couple years until I recently took photos of dark-colored garments with tone-on-tone embroidered logos on a white background for one of our company's many e-commerce catalogs. The shirts have no life, no depth, whatever. The studio is in the basement of our office building, low white ceiling with white walls. Someone suggested that I should use black umbrellas, or different colored backgrounds (currently have white, black and royal blue). By looking at some of the attached photos, can you give any helpful hints. I'm also attaching other items I've taken to show the difference. All pictures are taken at low resolution for the Web. Thank you!
