There are some amazing outstanding shots on this thread. And there are alot more finalists and winners. Aimee, there may have to be a new thread for for just these.

My finalist last month is one of those COMPLETELY lucky camera did it all shots. Very little skill involved. Walked out on the deck talking on the phone and there was this bug, grabbed my camera, never put down the phone and shot hand held. Will never be able to do this again.

Congratulations Ellen, on a super capture.

And Aimee, I think Ellen has a good idea here. The club is so consistent with their EP entries that it seems appropriate to isolate the finalist and winning entries. Would like to hear how the rest of the group feels.

I 'm ok with the finalists and winners being on their own thread and should start next month if you decide to do it.
BUT....when on this thread they are not missed and I really like looking at everything together.

it is exciting to see all the finalists and congratuation jeff on your winner

I'm leaning toward a a monthly thread for finalists and winners only. As I mentioned earlier, the club is so consistent in posting EPs, that it is loosing it's status.

However would be OK with two separate threads. Starting next month if everyone agrees. Maybe a letter from you would be appropriate to pole the group.

I personally would like to keep and EP thread. I can't seem to land a finalist . . . so for me EP's are still exciting. :) And I like seeing everything on one thread . . . but I understand the need for a seperate thread. :)

I tend to agree with Teresa and Rita and just leave the monthly thread for anything we get during that month that we want people to know about. I still think EP's are valuable in and of themselves but I don't think that the different tags need to be segregated. Just my opinion.

Dale I think you know how I feel on this. Since BP started giving an EP to between 70% and 80% of all photos submitted I have felt that getting an EP on a photo is not an accomplishment at all. It has been almost 2 years since I have submitted a shot that did not get an EP. This includes one this month which was the submission of the wrong shot by accident and which I think is pretty bad, but it still got and EP.

This is why I no longer post my EP shots in accomplishments and why I have dropped my contest entries from 15 to 20 a month to 5 to 10 a month. That said, however, it is still a good place to share shots that we want others in the group to see that were not posted as a main shot to the club. So I have no objection to leaving it as one area. I choose not to put up shots until they are finalist or better, but that is my decision based entirely on the fact that an award that is given out so freely is now meaningless. I am sure this was a marketing decision on the part of BP which keeps some folks more interested in maintaining their subscription, but for me it just made an EP almost the same a thank you for participating ribbon.

Please don't take this as a shot an anyones work or feelings on the subject. It is just my personal feelings and remember even if BP was giving only 25% to 40% EPs like they used to, most of the shots from the members of this club would still be here with the EP tag.

I am for a seperate and ongoing thread for finalists and winners. Don't forget that any EP that makes finalist will already be on the previous months EP thread with the finalist badge now attached, so in effect they are being posted twice, once the month they got the EP, and again the next month when they get the finalist...for those of us who participate in posting EP's anyway..I also think it might be a good idea to split the EP thread into 2, one for the first half of the month and one for the second, just because they are getting so many posts...

If we do start a finalist/winner page I think we could get the ball rolling with this months and maybe one or two of our favorite previous ones...

Hmmm this is becoming an interesting thread. I'm thinking of us having 2 threads. One for all of our finalists and winners that will remain posted at all times and when it gets too big it will have a part 2. The other will be a current favorites thread.

I must agree that EPs don't excite me anymore. Maybe once in a month I don't get one and I enter everyday. Sometimes I'm not even all that crazy about a shot that gets an EP. So I think it would be nice to have a current favorites thread and if you want to use it for all your EPs thats fine. Or you can use it to post your favorite shots at the moment EP or Not.

How does that sound?

Aimee that sounds like a good idea to me. A monthly favorites that will change and a more permanent record of Finalists and Winers from the group.

I will post some in a favorites thread to share, and hopefully have some in the other category.

Aimee, you were always good at finding a good compromise. I like the idea of an ongoing finalist/winner thread, parts 1 and 2 etc.

The current favorites thread could get out of hand though, so perhaps a current EP favorites thread. We all know when we get an EP that isn't up to our own standards, and just leave it up to the recipients to monitor their own and post their favorites.

I must admit that is is nice to see images from the members that have not been posted on Phellos. Of course, we could always peruse each others galleries and I'm guilty of not doing this as ofter as I should.

This thread is another thing I love about Phellos. We discuss things openly as friends with no malice. What a unique gift for all of us.

After reading Dale's comments and thinking some more about the issues I have some ideas.

First the finalist or better thread should be on a time basis. Quarterly or 1/2 year IE the 2nd half of 2010 etc. This way we can see our members progress in comparison to a regular interval. The 1/4 or 1/2 year is just to keep volume in check depending on what everyone thinks would be appropriate.

Second the favorites thread also needs to keep volume in check. I have already stated I think EP is pretty meaningless only in that there are so many given you have no real guidance as to whether the judges think they are OK or very good, but they do weed out the 20% or so that are real bad. So I would say the favorites has to be photos from the current month that have an EP and have not been posted on the regular thread as we have already seen those and if they are really good will see them again in the other thread. In addition I think there should be a number limit per individual of say 10. With 18 members that still 180 photos each month so I am open to a lower number. With the posts on the regular thread this would mean that we could share about 18 photos each per month with this wonderful group and as Dale noted we can still visit galleries to view more if we desire.

What do you all think and if you like the idea how about your ideas on the numbers.

I think monthly is better for a finalist thread since we don't get an overwhelming number of those...I think 10 is on the high side for the favorites thread, I was thinking one non club posted image a week ..that way we will get to share 72 high quality images a month, a decent number but not overwhelming....the other good thing about a favorites thread is we get to see how well our own favorite images match up with which ones are chosen as finalists..

I like where this is going. I like the idea of a finalist/winner thread. I also like Mike's idea of doing it as a quarterly list with the ability to go back to previous quarters to see the progress that we have made.

I also like the idea of the favorites thread. There are a lot of great images that go by unseen.

As far as the EP thread goes, I completely understand both sides of the fence on the meaning of an EP. I propose that we keep the EP thread as it is now, a monthly thread. Those that want to participate can, those that don't, can opt out.

That's my thoughts.

I like the sound of Tony's package with the limit of one non-posted favorite a week. That coupled with the finalist/winner thread and the voluntary EP thread seems like a reasonable solution.

Majority will rule. Except we probably don't have a majority since only a few of us have weighed in on this. Where's the rests of the 18 of us on this anyway?

I'm on the fence. I certainly think that EP's have been devalued in the last couple of years, but I have still have serious concerns about putting the heavier focus on finalists.

I don't see this as putting a heavier focus on finalists Debbie, just creating a seperate area to showcase them...and I think the idea of having 3 threads, one EP and one favorites that will change monthly, and a finalist/winner thread that will be an ongoing compilation, sounds great as long as Aimee is ok with maintaining 3 seperate threads and the majority of us agree to it as well..

Well I'm willing to maintain 2 threads I think 3 gets a little confusing. So my idea will be to start off with a finalist winner thread that I will title "Our first winners circle". This will include all of our finalists and winners up to date. Then I will do half a year threads after that. So the next one will say "Late 2010 winners circle" or something to that effect.

As for the other thread it will be a mixture of EPs and favorites. Everyone can post 2 photos per week in this thread just for sharing (no critiques). They can have EPs or they can be a favorite photo not entered yet.

I just think doing 3 threads will waste alot of peoples time because we already have alot to do in Phellos and I don't want us to end up posting photos just to post them with nobody looking at them or commenting on them.

Aimee...Yes, I agree that three threads are just too much to handle - for all of us. I think the Winner's/Finalist Circle should be tried and the EP thread should be set aside. Personally, I would rather make the commitment to visit each other's galleries to see individual EP's for the month. I know that not all 18 Phellos would buy into this since we don't have total buy-in with thread participation in the first place but I do enjoy going into the galleries and looking around; choosing to leave at least one or two comments on particular images. I don't think this could be regulated by the group. After a while we would just know who is participating and adjust our own responses accordingly.

Sounds like a good compromise, Aimee, that will please everyone and limit some of the work you have to do.

Debbie makes a good point for eliminating the EP thread and suggesting that we take the time to visit our Phello members sites more often. Your compromise works for me by not eliminating the thread but also feel that Debbie's request for more personal involvement by all merits a good look by all the members. I plan to try my best to do just that.

Geez Louise! I'm finally entering images into the contest after vacation. I came here to post one that got an EP and find this most amazing thread.

I don't have a preference on how many threads there are or how many photos per person are on each thread. I don't keep my portfolio up to date. And I haven't finished the design of my portfolio "thephotodamsel." I'm lucky when I can revise a photo on the Phellos Club site and keep current with meaningful critiques. But I will try to participate.

Mike, I don't normally take what is said by anyone in this group "as a shot" but when you write " but they do weed out the 20% or so that are real bad." that does sound like a lot of hubris on your part. I don't always get an EP, I get few finalists, and I've only had one winner. Oh well, I try to push the envelope at times, don't get an EP and that's okay with me. My non-EPs are not 'really bad'.
