Importing Nikon Raw Files in PSE 7

I have just purchased a Nikon D90 and was trying to input into PSE 7. It imported the one jpeg file, but won't download the rest. Its says the files are either corrupt, damaged or cannot support this type of file. These are NEF raw files. Any ideas of what to do?

  Hi Carlton,

I downloaded the camera raw update and it still will not load them. Perhaps my files are damaged somehow. Maybe I should take the memory card to a retailer to see if I can download them from there? Any other suggestions?

  Hi Shelley,
Do not format or anything to the card and try uploading them to a different drive or folder.
Are you using a card reader or the D90 to upload the files ? Try uploading with a card reader and if this doesn't work, you may need a rescue program like :
http://z-a-recovery.com/demo-ir.htm
http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/
http://www.recuva.com/
You can take them to a local Camera store and they may be able to rescue them but will charge you $25, the rescue programs usually do the trick for free.
My Sandisk CF cards sometimes have a rescue disk included.
Good Luck,
Carlton

  Hi Shelley,

did you try to open the RAW files with the RAW converter that came with your camera?

If you use a card reader, can you "see" the files in the Windows Explorer or Mac Finder? Or do you get an error message as well? If so, then the memory card is corrupted and you'll have to try to rescue the files as Carlton said.

Greetings

Rainer

Yes, I was able to download the files onto my laptop using the Nikon software, so that means my memory card is ok. So the problem is with Photoshop Elements 7 then. Even after I loaded the update from Adobe, the images won't load. Is this a specific thing for all Nikon files? This didn't happen with my Canon camera.

  Hi Shelley,
Thats good that its not the card. I dont know your OS (Vista/W7/MAC) as I am a MAC user and use CS3 but I am able to open a Canon 1Ds rae file on my old Elements 4.
Go into Elements and check for updates from the help menu or just do a search for updates on the Adobe & Nikon sites.
I did read that you need ACR 5.2 for PSE7 off of a Nikon site.
I am sure once you get the correct update, it will work for you.
Carlton
