Your First BP EP

I thought it might be fun if everyone thought back to the excitement of their very first Editors Pick if you can remember it. :~) Please post it here if you do!

Thanks Aimee for starting this thread because it got me thinking...

The Editor's Picks badge is relatively new. In the old days, we had to wait for the finalists to be announced. (Or sneak a peak at the hidden early rounds of judging as the privileged
few who could find them would often do.)

It seems as if the famed EP badge, once implemented, was posthumously awarded to all of those early-round choices throughout BP's history so I decided to explore some of my early entries to see what I could find.

What I learned by looking at some of those old photos is that what I thought was really good back then seems quite dreadful now! :(

Given that...the earliest Editor's Pick I could find was this one back in 2003.

Aimee, great idea!! It will make us realize that how far we have gone in photography skills from receiving our first EP. I am a relatively new comer and I confess, I knew almost Zippo about photography when I started seriously here in mid 2008. If I remember correctly, below is my first EP at BP. A reworked version of the same image got a Finalist in October 2008.

What fun! When BP sent me an email 'selling' me on the new policy to pay for a membership, the following was the EP I saw. I remember thinking, "Wow! If that image received an EP, my new images might have a chance." lolllllllllll So, I paid my money and officially joined! It was a wonderful decision.

Nutz! I should have stuck with the format I knew, instead of trying to display the image, itself.

Yes I remember my very first Editor's Pick, it was a Monday morning December 24 when I saw it, can you believe it on Christmas eve day. I showed it to all my girls and my hubby, it was the first day that I did my EFP dance.

I rememeber it distictly. Well, maybe it's the feeling I remember so clearly. I cried! To have my work recognized was astounding. I had really just started taking photography seriously and joined BP. I won a 2nd place ribbon for this image that very year in our county fair. I resubmitted once but got no higher than another EP.

It was in June 2006. I remember I was getting very frustrated with BP as probably like many BP members I thought that there were EPs given to other folk's work that to me seemed pretty boring. (lol) Shooting this image of a blue door on our tool shed was an act of defiance. I was saying,"If you can't even bother to recognize any worth in my shots taken back in Cornwall then here's an arty farty image; see what you make of that!" Ho hum!

I remember being away from BP for about 2 years...when I came back, I found the membership changed and I paid to join, it was around that time I noticed some EP's about 3 of them, so I can't say which is first, but I was excited to have my work recognized, I just did not understand how, being that some of them I didn't think I even entered in the monthly contest. I'm still not clear on how it all works as far as Photo of the Day Winners and Editor picks. It's all from the monthly contest entries I suppose??!! anyway, here are the first ones I noticed and was thrilled over :)

  Well, lets see........hmmmm

When I first signed up with BP I was around for a short while. Being new to photography and seeing all the amazing photo made me feel a little to much overwhelmed so I took a very long break from BP. Then I got a better camera and then came back to give my photos another try and when I logged on I had many, many photos with a little badge under them that said editor's pick under them. I had no clue as to what this meant or why they were there.

The only thing I can figure is that they went back and awarded all the photos in the past that advanced to the second round into the contest.

The funny thing was that I thought I had won big being the newbie frame of mind that I was in...........LOL. It was a great feeling.

Isn't amazing how the EPs felt when you started getting them compared to now?

Lynn R. Powers   Yes I remember my first "Editors Pick".
I was rather nonchalant about it. I believe my reaction was something like this:

"EDITORS PICK?? WOW!!!" Raised both hands in the air above my head with fists clenched and jumping up and down,
"YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!"

As I said, I was rather nonchalant about the whole thing. LOL

Because they did some back-tracking a while ago and added some that I never thought had made it, I am not certain of which one was my first but I believe it was in August of 2006. I had a reaction similar to Lynn's because it took me quite a while from when I joined to when I got my first EP.

It wouldn't let me just drop the picture in so I'll try another tactic.

Whoo Hoo!! I just got my first BP EP!!! (Been here since 12/28/2009). The personal gratification makes me giddy...but I also realize I am still a novice, so the personal pride does not hinder my ability to see I still need much improvement.

It was for my image "Snow Babies" :-)

Congrats to all of you on your picks as well....I have been browsing through them and you should all be quite proud of your work :-)

You can see my first EFP from http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/discussionDetail.asp?threadID=733528 (I joined on September 1st, 2007 and got my first EFP for an image submitted on 7th). I got 11 EFPs for the month I joined... Of course, at first I counted them and getting one made my day and I dreamed of having a whole page - 30 images - of them, but later I got used to and now I'd like to have a full page of Finalists or Winners... I guess my record was 25 EFPs for a month, but this month I've only got 16 so far: usually I don't get many when judges try to cover several days' entries in a couple of hours.

My first EFP came almost a month after I joined BP. I had no idea what it was and ran to get my wife to show her. Once I got it, it was like a narcotic, I needed more! As I look back at my early stuff, a few of the ones that were skipped still puzzle me. Oh well, as I read throughout the other BP threads, "I can always resubmit."

  Mike:
Editor's Picks represent uploaded photos that Team BetterPhoto has found especially interesting, eye-catching, or beautiful. They are simply contest entries that have moved on from Round 1 of the contest judging.
it is exciting to get, I have a total of 17 now I believe and I hope someday to get contest winners of photo of the day! Pam :)

When I joined in 2007 I was still shooting film. Scanned film shots were a hard sell in the supersharp digital world, so I was really excited when about a month later I got an EP on this one

BTW Mark, many of my early BP photos, including a few that I consider among my best photos ever, took a few resubmits before they got EPs.
