Photography Question

Canon exposure compensation

I am currently taking Tony Sweet's very excellent course on hdr. This week's lesson is on extreme hdr requiring exposure compensations of -4/+4EV. I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark 2 and can only dial in -2/+2. I have been all over the manual to see it there is some obscure custom function that will let me do this but so far have come up empty.
Does anyone know if this is at all possible? I do know that the Canon 1D series has an expsure compensation of -3/+3.
Thanks for any advice (except to buy myself a Nikon).

Dial in -2/+2, see what it says for the shutter speed and f-stop.
Figure in your head two more f-stops worth of exposure, +/-.
Then set it to manual and put the camera on that setting.

Thanks Gregory - I'll try that and hope I don't jiggle the camera too much when I'm doing it!

With EOS cameras (probably other makes as well) you can combine auto exposure bracketing (AEB) with exposure compensation (EC) to extend that +/- 2 range.

Set EC to -2 and AEB to +/-2 and your EOS camera will take three exposures at -4, -2, and 0. Set EC to +2 and you'll get 0, +2, +4. This works for all EOS models, but the limited meter scale doesn't show it well. The latest EOS models (eg. 5D II, 50D, 500D) have an expanded display in the rear LCD monitor that shows this more clearly, see p. 97 of the 5D II manual.

Thanks Jon - yes I saw that on page 97 with the -4/+4 showing but I just couldn't figure out how to it.
Thanks you so much.

  Hi Jacqueline,
You can also count the clicks on the shutter dial as it is in 3rds, so 3 clicks would be one full stop. I have done some this way with my 1Ds & 40D when I wanted to exceed what my meter would show.

Thanks Carlton. I actually have got it to work and it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought after many failed tried!
