Phello Photogs- Week 4 Debbra

Debbra has provided us with a cute baby image for week 4! Can't wait to see how everyone works a portrait. I know many of you don't deal with them so this is a great opportunity to give it a shot! Thanks Debbra! :~)

Such a cutie and so typical of Debbra's genius with children. When I saw this I immediately thought of my grand daughter and her love of roller coasters. "Hands in the air, like I just don't care!" is her motto.

Didn't have a roller coaster shot from the correct angle but did find another shot from the "octopus" at the Santa Monica pier that made an acceptable substitute. Let the fun begin!!!

I apologize but I just couldn't let this shot go with only one interpretation. I tried and I tried to let it go but the Devil made me do it.

Thanks for providing a shot which was fun to work on for a non people shooter.

My main focus was to get a good color and lighting balance along with a pink baby look. so I did lots of selections and adjustments with saturation and of course colorization.

Michael, I love how you brought out the color detail in this shot. I had a lot of trouble with that so opted for the easy way out. Well done my friend.

Those are two really fun Shots Dale. The octopus shot is so perfect as the other people in the car seem to be looking at and interacting with the baby. Nice creativity to interpret the shot.

Thank you Dale! That means a lot coming from a PP master like you. It was a fun shot to work on. I actually picked up one new technique working on this shot. When I finished editing the fingers had areas that were too red. I used select color range on them and desaturated the masked red channel using that selection and the red in the fingers was gone. Had never tried that before and it worked well and was easy to do.

The fact that this was a portrait shot sort of left me with a "What can I do to this to make it different?". Here's what I came up with. A tighter crop, a skin-softening filter and an antique plate filter.

OK guys, after only seeing a few interpretations of this shot, I have a favor to ask! These are too precious! Bean was actually babysitting Cameron when we did this shoot, and we didn't tell his mom :) We are going to edit and print a few for her birthday. I would love to give her a little album of all the interpretations :) If any of you who are willing to share yours would send me the files on e-mail as well as post them here, that would be awesome! I will only print them once to put in a little album for the mom :) Thank you!!!

Debbie and Michael - great portrait work :) I really like both images and their crops! And Dale....left Jeanine and I laughing OUT LOUD! Thanks for the fun!!! Your two would make a great poster! lol

Sounds good to me. I'I hope I still have it as a large jpeg. I may have downsized over it. No problem; only took a few minutes to do this.

No problem Deb. Unfortunately mine is saved just as a 4X5 JPEG. Because of the nature of the exercise I did not do my normal PSD file save.

Debbie yours is awesome too. Really achieved that old time look - right out of the 1920s. Very well done.

Jeeezzzzzzz...I had a horrible time with this....almost obsessed. I have come to the conclusion I am NOT ready for portrait work. I flipped him sharpened and added bubbles...ya I know they really don't look like bubbles...let's say they are Mississippi bubbles...everything is different here...

This baby is too cute. I had a tough time with this one, I do not do people well. But here goes, cropped, high pass filter, soft light, added a touch more highlight to the eyes, adjusted skin tone, and made him into a poster.

Debbra you really did give us a fun one to work on this week. I agree with Dale you are a genius with kids.
Dale your two posts are delightful, especially the first one.
Mike, love the way you brought the baby's color and made him center stage.
Debbie, that ole time look is great.
Vicki, I really like the bubbles and flipping him made it a completely different shot.

Debbie I really like your image. It reminds me so much of the small shots my parent used to take with their little brownie with the expanding bellows. I still have it and the original box.

Sure thing Deb. Will send them off post haste.

Vicki, I love the bubbles. The effect was so good I had to look twice to make sure it was the same shot. It seemed as if he was laughing harder.

Excellent job Ellen. Love the crop and the skin tone and filter were done just right. Not overdone and very effective.

Vicki that is a really fun interpretation of the shot. The flip was brilliant as it does change the whole feel of the shot.

Ellen I think you did a great job in bringing out the color and tones in this. I think yours is the closest to what I tried to do with it and you did it extremely well.

I did this one last week but can't remember what I did. I know I put a vignette on it, converted to b&w and I think I used the glow filter on it as well. Might have added sat/adjusted levels and sharpened too.
