Help: Raw Files I have just purchased a Canon 50D and I shoot in Raw. However, when I try to open the files in Adobe, it is telling me the files are not the correct kind of document. This is a new one on me, and I haven't a clue where to start looking. I don't want to go back to shooting in JPEG. Any help sure would be grateful. Cheers.

The camera makers' Raw files are proprietary formats, and are updated when each generation of sensor and processor. You need to update to the latest version of Adobe's Camera Raw plug-in. Or use Canon's supplied software for Raw conversion.

Thanks, guys, that has helped. I can now open the raw files in CS3, but I still can;t see the images in bridge. Any suggestions? I can see the thumbnail files but not the image.

I had the same with my Canon 1D MKIII..just go to adobe's website update downloads and you can find the update for the type of photoshop you have, ie. CS3, Elements, etc. Its pretty quick and easy.

If you move the slider (in Bridge) to the right, the size of the thumbnails will enlarge so the image can be seen.

I had the same problem, and started to use the supplied Canon photo editor. It took a little while to get used to, but now find it more powerful and better than Adobe. So I use the Canon RAW processor, and when finished press Alt+P, and the tiff file opens in Photoshop.

Lynn, In Bridge, move the slider beneath the thumb nails to the right side. The slider will enlarge your view of the image. If you then click on the image, you wish, the image will open in Adobe Camera Raw. As part of his intermediary course, Lewis Kempner has a section entitled I have not yet taken any courses from him, but he was recommended to me by one of the other instructors. Hope this helps. ~Bunny
