New Nikons- Higher Mega Pixels!

Does any one have an opinion on any of the new Nikon camera's or this year's model which offer a 12/3 mega pixel or higher? Are they really a better camera. Are they really offerring more than than last years model. How can you tell and what criteria should you base a decision on to upgrade or purchase the new model. I have a Nikon D40X 10.2 mega pixel. Thanks for your imput.

You can look on dpreview.com ..they usually give you some comparisons with the older model when they review them. I'm sure there are other sites that do the same sort of thing.

Karyl, more important than the number of pixels is the sensor size and pixel density (that is how many pixels there are in a specific area of the sensor). best are larger pixels and low pixel density. As Carolyn said, dpreview has this information. Bottom line, look beyond Mp.

Thanks for your imput. After having three camera's and shooting for over seven years I did'nt realize that the sensor size and pixel density was important. I'll look at the site! Karyl
