Photography Question

Beginner camera with some room for growth

Hi,
I am looking to get an SLR camera and need some advice. I would like to get one that can grow with me as I improve my skill. I have a new daughter and would like to capture her childhood and future sporting events. I also work as a wildland firefighter and plan to use it in that setting as well. I have been looking at the Nikon D60 (costco has a deal w/ 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Zoom NIKKOR Lens and 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Zoom NIKKOR Lens, a 2gb sd card, and case.) for $699. I have read a few posts to other members and wonder if this is a good package or even what I need. Any help would be appreciated.

  Jason,

Sounds like a pretty good deal. You will not be disappointed with that camera and lens combo.

My brother has the D-50 with the two lenses you describe.
The 18-55mm when one considers the cost is a surprise with excellent reviews.

Yep, you can sure grow with that camera as it has the ability to shoot full manual with a dizzying array of Nikkor lenses and accessories to keep you thrilled for a lifetime.

all the best,

Pete

Thanks Pete that is good to know. Going from a point and shoot to this is a little intimidating with all the options in camera and lens. I just want to be sure I don't put a bunch of money into something that won't grow with me.
