What software to buy.......

I am planning to buy a Canon D40. Do I have to buy any software apart from the CD I get with the camera??? I have read so many people discussing so many softwares, I am I need a separate software for doing HDR etc???
Please advice.

Hi Dinesh,

you'll get Canon's own editing app DPP with a D40. If it works for you, fine. But if you'd like to try something else, goto where you will find a whole list. The FREEware and SHAREware apps are on the right. Try a few before you shell out hundreds of bucks for software that you don't know what to do with (yet).

You might also want to try these FREE online editors:

You must learn to walk before you can run.

Have fun!

  Hi Dinesh,
What W said is right on - I would add that if you really want to do good HDR images, look at - PhotoMatix software. Runs about $99 but it has a tonemapping feature that makes their software better at HDR images than even photoshop, although I often do some minor adjustments in Photoshop after processing the HDR images in PhotoMatix.
I have been using Photoshop for a long time and rarely try other editing programs but my friend liked the Canon RAW software and processes his CR2 files with it. I also used (free software) for batch resizing & renaming before I switched to MAC.
Good Luck - Carlton
