Photography Question

September Finalists

First, congratulations to all September 2008 finalists, but I have a couple of questions regarding the contest.

Why are there fewer finalists in Elements of Design, Details & Macro, and Flowers categories than the other categories? I don't think it's because there are fewer entries in these categories.

Also, there's one image that keeps showing up as a finalist every month in the Flowers category. I had my only winner show up as a finalist, when I tried to change my self portrait, because of a glitch with BP. I know of one other member who had the same problem. BP eventually fixed it for both of us. I haven't had any problems with that since.

I hate to complain but, I don't think it's fair for one image to get a finalist spot repeatedly, especially when its in one of the categories with fewer finalists than the others.

Just wanted to throw out a HUGE congrats to all the Sep finalists! My computer time is severely limited right now (hotel computer), but I will be back home on Sunday and will catch up with all of you then!

I know what you mean Sam, she got lucky to be finalist again, once I resubnited one of my finalists and it didn't even got EF. I don't see the her reason for resubmit, she have some wonderful pictures in her gallery and gor her own stile. And you right it was finalist four times April, May, August and September. IMHO there should be a rule about resubmiting a finalist like it was in the cash contest.

I've only resubmitted one finalist. I changed the category from Digital Darkroom to Monthly theme. It didn't make it to the finals.

Maybe if images are resubmitted in the same categories, they keep their finalist emblems and stay the finals every time they're resubmitted, unless they become winners.

I personally wouldn't want one of my images to keep a spot in the finalists, when that spot could go to someone else's deserving image.

I can't even see a link to the finalists! (Not that I'm one....)

Where are they being hidden?!

It would be really nice if they had a "sports" or "photojournalism" category.
I don't do a lot of photoshopping and am tired of my images being lumped in with those that do.

A Finalist is not a "Winner". I suppose the person in question keeps hoping for a "win" hence the resubmits. It's no different than resubmitting a photo that doesn't get a badge in hopes of getting a winner.

If you resubmit a previous finalist you should be resubmitting from scratch, not just by the BP file number. Then it will go through on it's own and not have the old finalist tag on it.

I was under the impression that the amount of finalists per category was based on the number of entries in that specific category.
As far as resubmiting finalists, I think we are all permitted to do so- as the image is not a winner. Resubmitting it (with or without) a badge in hopes of a win is allowed.
Images keep their finalist badges- even if (when they are resubmitted) they do not advance.
I am not familiar with the image you are referring to, Sam, but my guess would be that this individual keeps resubmitting over and over again because BP keeps giving them a spot over and over again. LOL!
Lots of finalist images are resubmitted over and over again that do NOT get a spot. Perhaps this person is aware of that and is hopeful that it will actually win one day???
IMHO, Since the image already has a finalist badge it gains nothing from getting the same badge a second, third or fourth time.

It just goes to show that if you believe in a photo that you should keep resubmitting it.

I was lucky enough to get a second place in the August competition with an image I first entered in animals that didn't get an EP. So I reentered it in Catch All and got a second place.

It also shows that with the huge volume of images that BP has to wade through each month that an image can easily get overlooked.
