Hi Kristy,

I bet your local camera shop has something in that range for you.

Have fun!

Hi Kristy! I'm looking to upgrade too, and in the same price range too! DO you want an SLR or super zoom point and shoot? Canon is coming out this month with a new powershot SX10 IS which is at the top of your price range.

My volt is for the Canon S5 IS
$330 on-line Circuit City.

Operates on 4 AA batteries. Will accept AA rechargeable. Has non-interchange lens of good quality. Zoom is moderate wide-angle to outstanding telephoto. Lens max aperture is acceptable. Shutters speed range is superb. 8 MP will deliver quality 8x10’s. All the modes one could ask for. Has two viewfinder systems. An LCD that is large and bright. An electronic viewfinder that gives a view similar to an SLR, it works in bright sunlight. View has gridline help for composing. Built-in-flash. Hot-shoe for remote flash attachment. In ‘auto’ mode it focuses and sets shutter and aperture with accuracy. Can be set to full manual. Can be set to shutter priority. Can be set to aperture priority.

Drawbacks are non-interchangeable lenses however available are both wide-angle and telephoto add-on. Biggest drawback is the tiny size of the digital chip inside the camera. Promotes noise when asked to up the ISO however camera has good noise mitigating software. I think all and all this is the best entry level digital for a budding photographer.
