I've never been to a Summit before, but it sounds great! I'm considering attending, however, I live on the east coast. Just wondering if I should try to attend or wait until another time when it's closer to PA? Ü

We had a great one in Sept 07 in Chicago - I'm sure Karen could answer this better, but I assume no plans are in the making for the next summit.

Plus, what better excuse to have than spend a weekend in heaven along the Monterey coast with dorky photographers like myself?

:)

We'd love to see you in Monterey in October Teri! At this point, 2009 is anhyone's guess so I would hate for you to miss this great event. East coast will hopefully be a future destination, but not in the plans yet. Monterey is amazing - hope you can join this wonderful group!

Ok - thanks for the feedback! I'd LOVE to come. I'm a teacher, so I'd have to see about time off bc the flight to CA is quite long Ü. Already got the ok from my hubby, so sounds hopeful!

  Terri,

I attended the Summit in Washington two years ago and it was great. It is wonderful to meet your instructors in person. I am a retired high school teacher and look forward to meeting you. Monterey is a beautiful place and you will have a lot to shoot there.

Me too Carol - love meeting everyone as a BP instructor- I look forward to lecturing as well- love it!

Wish I could help with a ride Ellen, but my times will vary from yours unfortunately- we should be able to find a few car pools though!

Anyone at BP got a promo code or IATA number for Casa Munras so people can get a break on room rates? $156 per night off season here is a tad steep don't you think? I can recommend better places here for less money within walking distance of the CM.

Welcome Lynn- looking forward to meeting you!

Mark, hopefully Casa Munras is offering a discount- I'm not sure, but maybe our BP team will chime in, or you can always call the Casa & maybe they can help too.

Actually Sean, there are two very nice hotels within about a half a block of the Casa Munras. One is a Days Inn, on the corner of Fremont and Abrego in downtown Monterey. Very comfortable, clean and affordable. Make sure it's the one in downtown monterey, not the one up on North Fremont.

The other is the Sand Dollar on Munras. Fire places in every room, jacuzzi, a pool, although it's a bit cold here for swimming that time of year.

If you call the Casa Munras and ask about a room rate, tell the reservations person you want a group discount of 50% or you can stay at one of the places I mentioned. There is also a Denny's restaurant across the street but if I get enough e-mails from people with "restaurants" in the title block, I'll e-mail you a list of my favorite places here where you can get good chow, good prices, and tourists don't generally hang out. Trust me, in Monterey you don't want Denny's. Seafood anyone? Fishwife in Asilomar is fantastic and very reasonable. Pasta and seafood. Joe Rombi's for Italian in Pacific Grove. Tillie Gorts for Vegetarian fare. Just to name a few.

If you want a car here, make sure you reserve it ahead of time since the rental agencies don't store more than a few out at the airport. Big sur is only about 20 minutes south of here on Highway 1. Carmel (very pricey Tee Shirts and art galleries though nice architecture and good food) is only a few minutes from downtown Monterey, just south about three miles on Highway 1.

Bring some comfortable shoes for hiking around, a sweater and lightweight jacket. That's getting close to our rainy season that starts November 1st but it's been dry so far.

Oh and if you need a camera store, Myricks on Fremont next to the car wash is the best. They have a well-run one-hour lab, have a lot of digital gear and can make quick minor repairs, batteries, etc. There is also Shutterbug Camera Repair on Figueroa Street, about six blocks or so from the Casa Munras.
Bon Voyage
Mark

Thanks so much Mark- actually I'm very familiar with the area - my father ran the Sardine Factory for years, but thanks for the info- definitely add it here for others too if you wish- that's great.

And yes, definitely bring warm clothes- ya never know if we'll have beautiful warm sunny skies, or Mark Twain's summer-in-San Francisco weather.

Hey Sean !! ! Small world (but I'd hate to have to paint it. ). Drop me your e-mail address when you get a chance. I either know your dad or his successors including Bert, Ted and Bill. Oh, and you should see the Marriot set-up across the street from the factory at Cannery Row and Prescott.
