Nikon D60 or Rebel Xti

I am wanting to purchase my first SLR camera, and needing some advice on which one to lean more towards and put my faith into the product.

Everyone here KNOWS Canon is better...JK...you should go to the camera store and actually demo both. They'll both feel different, both systems are great and its like comparing BMW to Mercedes, you gotta take them for a test drive and check out the little features.

Even though Oliver is obviously deluded on Canon being better - he did offer some very good advice. The feel of a camera as you compose a picture and the ease of changing settings is very important. Also, think not only about the camera you are buying now but what you would like to move up to eventually. It is likely that your camera body will change several times but once you invest in some serious lenses it makes it difficult to change systems.

Yes, this is really a very personal decision. I, personally, prefer Nikon and have for over 20years.

I recently bought a D80 (after a long, agonizing decision between D40x, D60 & D80.) I chose the D80 because it better supports Nikon lenses I already own.

Had it not been for this bias, I'm really not sure which I would have chosen.

However, though, given how the prices have fallen, why aren't you including the D40X (10mp) ... or even the D40 (6mp).

Unless you just HAVE to have 10mp, the 6mp D40 right now is a STEAL!!! I doubt it will be on the market for much longer.

Likewise, the D40X is being obsoleted by the D60, but it is a really great camera with *almost* all the same features / body, etc.

Anyway, Cannon or Nikon, whatever you chose, you can't go wrong! They both have thier strengths & weaknesses, but both are the best of the best.

I'm in the same boat you are, Destiny. I'm trying to decide between the Canon EOS XSi (450D) and the Nikon D60. It's amazing - depending no which web site you go to for which magazine, they basically run neck and neck.
