Thank you David and Carlton, I put in animals tomorrow. I took the image with my new camera (Sony alpha 700) at my Dad's ranch in Wyoming.

Hi Kerby, I am usually pretty good and identifying snakes but I dont know which one this is. Do you know ? I am assuming the fish is 8 to 10 inches and looking at the body of the snake, it appears to be going back into the water so I am guessing it is fairly large (8-10 feet). Am I close ? Carlton

Awesome shot. How do you like the A700? I know it's not the best, but I'm very partial to my A100.

Hi Carlton, I took this with a macro lens. Hi Mark I love the Sony Alpha 700. I am just starting to learn to use it. I bought three lens with it CZ 70-200 f2.8 I think I am going to like the macro lens best it so cool. That 70-200 one is so big you can hardly pick it up. It has to go on the tripod I bought. LOL... I actually got the camera at Best Buy they were selling them out at a really good price for the base camera. I paid nine hundred and that included the insurance.

Hi Kerby, You have a nice selection of lenses. I too love my macro lens. I use a ringflash that attaches at the end of the lens for butterfly & other macro pics. It really helps with some shots. You will get used to the 70-200 and you will find a great many uses for it. A tripod opens so many options for shooting, I lug mine everywhere. For landscape & using slow shutter speeds, its a must. I am happy you found a deal that worked for you. Carlton

Hi Carlton, I never had a lens you switch on the camera before these are my first three. My other camera was a fixed len camera. I could have went with any brand camera since I did not have any lenses but the Sony seemed to me to be an easier learning curve for me. That 70-200 is going to have to go on the tripod since it so big. I can not pick it up comfortable in my hands when it on the camera without my hands shaking. I was happy with the price on the base camera at Best Buy. Kerby

It's hard to tell for sure without seeing more of its body but this looks like a common garter snake (or possibly a western garter). It's typical for these guys to scavenge dead or dying fish, like this dace, from around stream beds. Were there lines running down the length of the snake's body...or was there more of a "banded" pattern? ...cool shot! Bob

Here another picture of more of the body of the snake. I really am not sure of what kind he is. Maybe this will help you. I put the first picture in animals today. Kerby

Thank you David. I was not sure what kind of snake it was. After I took several picture's the snake swam away with his dinner.
