lenses I have a film camera with several quality lenses. I'd like to get a digital SLR and I'm wondering if my lenses are transferable, maybe with adapters or something, or if I'm going to have to start all over again. Thanks!

Depends on which camera lens system you have. Generally (but with some exceptions and limitations) you can use Nikon manual focus and autofocus lenses on Nikon and Fujifilm digital SLRs. Similarly, (with exceptions and limitations) most Pentax MF and AF lenses can be used on Pentax and Samsung digital SLRs. Canon digital SLRs can use the autofocus lenses made for the EOS autofocus film SLRs, but not the older manual focus FD/FL mount lenses that were made for their F-, A-, and T- series film SLRs. Sony digital SLRs can use the autofocus lenses from the Minolta Maxxum/Dynax series of AF film SLRs, but not the MD/MC mount manual focus lenses of their older film SLRs. Olympus digital SLRs use an entirely new autofocus lens mount and so cannot use the older OM mount manual focus lenses without an adapter.

P.S. regarding adapters. The Canon EOS lens mount is wider and closer to the sensor than most other brands. That makes it relatively easy to adapt many different makers' lenses to the EOS. Simple ring adapters are readily available for mounting Nikon, Pentax M-42, Pentax K, Contax/Zeiss, Olympus OM, and Leica R lenses to EOS. The focus and aperture control will be manual, but the EOS cameras will meter properly with them in M and Av exposure modes. Ironically, the old Canon FD/FL lenses are not so easily adapted to EOS cameras. To maintain the range of focus to infinity the FD to EOS adapter requires additional optical elements that act as a mild teleconverter and also affect image quality.
