HS Sports Photography

I'm hoping I can get some advice from anyone out there who's shot HS sports before. I've been shooting my sons lacrosse games which start around 7PM. The first half shots are usually pretty good but once the sun goes down I can't seem to get the settings right to get a decent shot. What I'm looking for is a shot where the action is frozen in the entire frame with no blur. I try upping the ISO but then there's too much grain. I have a flash but I don't think it's strong enough to light up the action on the field even though I'm right down on the track. I've got a Sony DSC a100K and am using mostly using my

If you have an external flashgun – a powerful one – you can extend its range with a BetterBeamer.

Thanks for the tip W. S.

I'm wonderring if it wouldn't be a better use of my money to get a better lens though. The article there didn't make it sound like it would help too much. I'm fairly new to the photography world, but I'm going to check out the options first. I know I'm supposed to be able to get Minolta lenses for my camera as well so there are tons of lens options to go with. I may try to pick up a used one somewhere like Ebay or something. The shots I'm getting aren't horrible, but they aren't as sharp as I'd like. I'm learning where on the lax field I can shoot from with the lighting they have. I may hold off until next season for a better lens.

Thanks for the advice though. I appreciate it!

Jim
