Editors First Picks Hi, I am new to this site; I love the beautiful photos and use them as inspiration for my painting. I was scanning the different areas on the site and ran across this discussion. I congratulate you all! I guess I did not realize how competitive the contests are. There were many comments about the Editors First Picks; some of them were not very favorable for new photographers. Please keep in mind that a person may have taken just one great photo, but will be remembered throughout history such as the photo of the solider and woman kissing during the V-day parade after WWII. I hope you will encourage new photographers by giving positive reinforcement and critical (but kind) criticism. Even though many of you are professional and fabulous photographers, please be sure to give the young photographers credit for trying to develop their skills. Also, be happy for those young and/or new photographers who receive Editors First Pick and/or become a finalist or contest winner thus leading to more recognition for all photographers. Again, thank you for sharing your beautiful photos with me; I wish you all continued success. Mona :)

welcome mona, I will assume you meant soldier, anyway,we have no clue as to your post or that your claim has a basis. you give a general response that all members discourage new photographers? with such a generalist approach, you send a message. the oxymoron here is to give positive yet kind criticism.that is so subjective that with some,it's a curve or bp has a grading scale or you do as to offensive?say we let you set the standard.i'm fine with that but you need to set guidelines.well then you got some professionals as you say setting the standards or are too harsh on comments. well mona,i think you speak of a specific incident.luck does not a photographer make, sam

Thanks for the responses. I am in no way using the photos on the site and/or copying them when I paint. I have two professional photographers in my family; therefore, I am very familiar with copyrights. I am also a very honest and caring person and would never steal anyone's works, ideas or thoughts. So, Sam do not imply I am dishonest (also everyone spells a word wrong now & then). I was encouraged to view this site after friends and family joined; they were so excited to see of the amazing photos. My comments did not imply anything negative; it was a call for the most successful photographers to encourage or mentor new and upcoming photographers. Like any words spoken or in type, my comments do not apply to all, and I don't believe my comments portray anything other that celebrating everyone's successes. Please be reassured, I will not steal anyone's work; I am not a professional artist or a thief. How can anyone not be inspired by the beauty portrayed in your photos? I apologize if I offered anyone, that was not my intent. I wish you all continues success.

Thank you for the compliments and encouragement Mona. You say you have 2 family members who are photographers. Are they familiar with Corel Painter. You can either paint over existing images or open a blank canvas and create your own painting. I wish I had some technical painting training as it would probably help me with this program, but I have a lot of fun with it anyway. The Wacom tablet can be used with Painter and the Intous3 has 1024 pressure points with variable tips for different effects. Painter has a lot of different brushes (acrylic, pastel, chalk, oils) and & effects (impressionist, flemish rub) to give you many cool combinations.

well, don't know where you got this but I did not say or insinuate you were dishonest.that I don't like the little guy? I am the most idiotic person here as to new members. now if we want to deal with spelling and linguistics,i'm all for it. mentor? you mean without self promotion or credit for ones own contribution. if you want me to believe your joan of arch, arc, the translation from french, what.it's nice you offered anyone.and hoprfully that would be continued success.even continuous. I don't think your dishonest, yet you wish to speak for another as you say, offended or abused.even if your right how do we correct that?sam
