Photography Question

Tammy L. Newcomb

What Does Editor's Pick Really Mean?

What does Editor's Pick really mean? Who is the Editor? Are there more than one Editor? What criteria does the Editor use when picking or is it merely just one opinion?

Should one be proud of an Editor's Pick?

It makes me feel good when my photos are picked but I still have the questions above pondering in my mind.

Thanks for any information that anyone is willing to respond with.

Thank you two so much for pointing that out but I am one step ahead of everyone including myself....LOL....after I made this post I typed the word Editor's Pick into the search field and low and behold a whole page of discussions came up about the issue. After reading, I am not sure if I should be proud or not according to some....LOL... I see so many beautiful pictures that are never picked so it makes me wonder.

I like the statement "will help you avoid the whiney people." You are so right since there tend to be alot of whiny people in this world.

Minus one, Gregory. You can take me off that list now. I'm making money with microstock and decided it is a complete waste of time and totally nonproductive to worry, whine or otherwise stress over EPs or winning. My best advice now is just enter the contest for fun and don't worry about the medals. Making money is a heck of a lot more fun anyway ;).

LOL....OK, Sharon D and Gregory, did I miss something...LOL... or do I detect some sort of rivalry here. Just remember I do not really know anyone one here so my statement about alot of whiny people in this world was a general statement....LOL.... I too am whiny but I keep it to myself....LOL..LOL..

No big deal, Tammy! Gregory likes to needle me because I've griped about the contest in the past and he is BP's #1 fan, but my griping is in the past where it's going to stay. He'll have to find someone else to pick on ;).

No rivalry. She was convinced that her not getting some efp awards was due to BP seeing it was her photo and purposely not awarding it.
So if she decided that she'd never get off The List instead of actually deciding to do it for fun, then nothing really has changed.

Gregory, I can not imagine why it would matter what I believe or not or whether anything has changed or not. It doesn't matter why I enter the contest. What matters is that I'm done griping about it. Surely you can't argue with that???

LOL.....This is better than "Days of Our Lives." LOL... It seems that Gregory likes strong, opinionated women...LOL....

On a serious note: You both seem very different in the area of photography and you two are very talented and I am sure neither of you would argue about that...Hee Hee....

Thanks so much for responding....

Sharon D....I added you to my favorites so I can continue to be inspired by your work....

Gregory, I did not see an option to add you as one of my favorites.

Strong, opinionated women? I think Gregory just likes stirring up trouble. :-) I mean that in the kindest way possible. :-)

What I meant by "Strong and Opinionated," is that strong minded women who voice an opinion, disagree, share their thoughts for something they truly believe in or stand for may come across as whiney, b*tchy etc. Most of the time, men often miss-understand women and stereotype women this way. As I seem to be doing the very same thing towards men(I do not mean all men) as I write this.

It seems that Gregory likes getting Sharon's feathers ruffled and picks at her for amusement, which makes me think he really likes her to keep making the same effort to get her going consistently...LOL...

I think Gregory is just easily entertained ;). Some people watch tv and some people troll forums :D. I bet he's not amused now ROFL!

Did just hear you call Gregory a troll?? Now, now. I'm amused, even if no one else is. Oh, and I know this the internet and you can't see my smile - so for the record I'm just teasing. :-) Though I am surprised that we haven't heard from Gregory yet....

As I was writing that I figured Gregory could just as easily call me a troll :o). I am trying to stay busy though :D.

"It seems that Gregory likes strong, opinionated women..."

Yes I do.
And I clearly know the difference.
It wasn't about just Sharon. Just people who seemed to get away from the reason the got a camera in the first place. Constantly needing validation.
The favorite thing is only for galleries I think. But I'll say thanks.

  Gregory,

I hope I have not offended you in any way. I really do understand the point you were trying to make.

You are very talented as I said above.

I get excited if I get editor's pick and one day I may actually place but I do know that I still have a lot of growing and learning to do.

Yeah, you are right, in order to add you to my favorite photographers list you must have to have a gallery.

Tammy

Oh no, not even close to being offended.
It's fine to get excited about the efp's.
It's how people get when they don't get what they want that is the problem.
You have to have some amount of comfort in your own nakedness.

How did this thread go from trolls to nakedness? :-)

I agree with you Gregory - the validation/pat on the back is nice, but it should not define someone's worth as a photog or upset people if it is not present. Creative expression is personal and subjective, and we should all be proud of our current work as well as strive to improve and enjoy the entire trip. You're a good guy. Someone's gotta make fun of ya though. :-)

Ok, I said I would shut up, but some people seem to deliberately miss Sharon's point. She's not mad because SHE didn't get one, she's mad because of the ones that are clearly BAD photography go through and many that are good don't. And it's not "subjective" either. Blown out waterfall shots and (not on purpose) blurry animals should not be going through at the expense of those that are more technically correct. I'm not going to reply anymore to this thread, so save the comments.

  "Nakedness is never far away."
- Probably sometimes it should be LOL.

Carolyn, I wasn't referring to Sharon or the EFP 'process' specifically, just making a general statement about enjoying photography for photography's sake. All good. :-)

Wow!! You too have an awesome gallery. I have really got some talented people responding here. Thanks to all of you for coming here no matter what your motive was for responding. Now I have several photographers I can learn from through the inspiration of your work.

Carolyn, I have decided there's really nothing that can be done about the judges choosing technically awful photos for EFPs and EVEN AFTER I've brought some of the worse ones to the attention of a few BP members and staff offlist there are still people who will argue "subjective" and politely tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and I don't see what's in front of my face. I guess I could post them all here for the viewer's pleasure but I'm not quite that mean :o). I haven't passed any along to Gregory because I think he's in the camp that would tell me all's well and good sooooo all's well and good with me too. It just does not matter to me much anymore. Presently I'm entering to keep my gallery current for microstock and that's it. I need no further BP validation or wins. I only need money ;). Oh, and you know what's cool about microstock??? You don't have to pay $4.95 to get money :o). They let you submit for free ;). Since this is an advertisement I guess I might as well tack on my referral number LOL.
