How to get specific filters with White Balance

I understand that the newer white balance settings in digitals have replaced the filters necessary to older film processes. Is there a way to preset the white balance to get a specific color correction filter?

Yes.
All digital cameras that I know of have a White Balance mode that can be set to either Auto, Sunny Daylight, Overcast Daylight, Incandescent, Fluorescent, or Flash presets. And dSLRs can also be set to an exact color temperature in degrees Kelvin.

I.o.w. with digital cameras you can set the WB much more precise than you ever could with film cameras and optical filters.

  Hi, Reid,

If you're talking about color correction like blue filters, orange filters (e.g., Cokin 85B), there is no pre-defined setting for these.

However, with Canon and probably others, in addition to selecting specific white balances or setting a specific temp, you can also shift the WB balance in camera in the direction of green, blue, magenta, and amber.

Canon also has filter effects for monochrome that emulates yellow, orange, red, green filters.

Of course, all of this can be done in Photoshop if you're shooting in RAW, regardless of the manufacturer.

Cheers,

RK
