How2 photograph dark room with bright window light

I'd like some advice on what settings to use for a photograph I'm trying to take of a room indoors. It's a fairly dark room but it has a couple of windows which let in a lot of light. The dark room versus the bright window is causing a lot of glare in the photo and making the areas by the window too bright and the rest of the room seems even darker.

I tried taking the photo with Aperture f3.5, ISO 100, no flash, and using a tripod (which worked really well for the other photos I took of badly lit rooms without windows).

I've attached some photos to show the problem I'm getting. Thanks in advance for your help!
