Photography Question

Colleen Farrell

Entering both contests at once

So, you can only enter one photo a day, and the same photo only once per month. But that's *per* contest, right?

And if you enter a photo in the cash contest but wanted to also enter it in the free contest for some reason, that would be OK?

This month I entered the cash contest for the first time, but now after several days I'm not thrilled about the photo.

But rather than "waste" my huge $4.95 entry fee, I thought I'd just keep that entry, revise the photo yet again and enter the new(est) version in the free contest in the same month.

I think that's OK ... right? :)

I think that's ok - I've seen images in both in the same month. Especially if the second entry is "revised," although I'm not sure how much revision you are thinking of.

I think the only problem MIGHT be if the image won in both contests. BUT the rules for the cash contest say that an image that has "previously" placed as first/second/grand winner in the free contest would be disqualified. It doesn't say what would happen if they won the same month.

Also, I haven't seen anything that says an image that won in the cash contest cannot be entered into the free contest.

Maybe I misunderstand... or we need more clarification?

Thanks, Sarah. That pretty much answers my questions.

I did think about a photo winning in both contests in one month, but I'm not worried about it since it would never happen to me! :)

I'm not sure why anyone would enter the exact same photo in both contests in one month anyway ... Maybe someone who has will answer that question.

I don't know what the judges would do if they came across that situation, though. The contests are so different, in terms of the number of entries, the categories (or lack of categories) and the prizes.

  Hi Colleen,

If you changed your mind about the cash contest entry, I think you can remove it and enter a different one. You will get an entry credit to repost a different image. Just email BP if it doesn't correct itself and they will give you credit.

I don't know the answer to the other question, but I have seen it done.

Donna

Yes you can enter the same shot in both contests. They did it all the time the first month, and I've seen quite a bit of it since, too.

I came across this today in the Contest FAQ~

QUESTION~

Can you enter the same image in the Free Contest as well as the Cash Photo Contest in the same month?

ANSWER~

You can but we don't recommend it. If your photo places as a winner in the Free Photo Contest, it will be disqualified in the Cash Photo Contest. For this reason, we recommend that you select a contest and enter each photo exclusively into one particular contest.
