Best Type Of Camera For A Decent Price

Hi, my name is Tiffany and I am an 18 year old aspiring photographer from Ohio. I have absolutely no experience with professional photography. My question is, what would be the best type of camera to buy that takes great pictures but doesn't cost a ton of money?
Thanks

To photograph what and learn/do/shoot what with? BTW, Tiff, I'm wondering, how much money exactly is in "...a ton of money"?

Hi Tiffany, There are a lot of threads here asking this very question (you may search and read some of these). Are you planning on taking classes at a local school or here at Better Photo ? What is your budget ? If you are planning to take classes at a local school, you may ask if they supply camera's or have suggestions as to what will be needed for the class. How much experience do you have with a point & shoot camera or manual controlled photography ? Do you know about proper exposure, rule of 3rds, and other fundamentals of photography ?
This is a large and fun learning curve and Better Photo has classes that teach many different levels & specific courses to start with & progress at your level of expertise.
When I decided to go digital, I read lots of reviews, went to the camera store and held several different camera bodies in my price range and looked at how logical the layout & controls fit me. Even though I had been a longtime Nikon & Fuji user, I decided I liked the Canon bodies better and chose Canon. They both make great camera's and lenses but the Canon felt more comfortable to me. There are also many other manufacturers but these are the biggest sellers. When deciding on a specific body, you are also deciding on a line of lenses since Nikon & Canon lenses have specific mounts for their bodies. Tamron & Sigma also make lenses for both and you have to specify either a Nikon or Canon mount when buying so that it will be the right one for your camera.
Read some of the other threads and dont be shy about asking for advise & help. Thats what this forum is for.

Buy Canon 5D if you have enough budget or Nikon D3.
Buy Canon 40D or Nikon D300 for less expensive.
with those I am sure you will do good enough and you will know later when you need more to upgrade if needed.

about photography, it is easy to learn from books, magazines, online here or anywhere on the net or real courses in person.

Good luck.
