Lowest prices isn't always a real price. If you think it's too good to be true, you're probably right. Check out feedback on retailers at http://www.resellersratings.com. I would recommend http://www.bhphotovideo.com. Not necessarily the cheapest, but honest and good customer service.

Barbara, First of all, I buy all my equipment and supplies on line with great experiences. I first go to Amazon when I buy camera equipment. They will give prices for gear that ships directly from their warehouse and give comparison prices for other respectable, well-vetted vendors such as Adorama. As Jon mentioned, B&H is one of the best as is Adorama and a number of others. Don't get taken in by a low price. There are some vendors who use very questionable sales strategies.

One additional item to consider if you're in the US: ensure that the product is not grey market (i.e., "direct import" v. USA import). Grey market items are usually less expensive, but there may be special warranty conditions attached. Many deep discounters deal in grey market goods. B&H (my favorite online retailer) lets you know if it is USA or grey-market and they also warrant grey market items themselves. Cheers, RK

Barbara, All the advice is good. If you see the camera you're interested in and the prices run let's say around $1,000..and then you see it advertised for $600 somewhere..That is the one you should not even contemplate. Just to clear something up.."Grey Market" does not mean the camera is built to a lower standard as many believe..what it does mean is it will usually NOT carry a warranty.

Barbara, I have purchased most of my equipment from Adorama. Their prices are as good as any other reputable internet site and the return policy and customer service is excellent. I have also purchased from B&H and Roberts and had no problems. Bill

All great advice. When shopping on-line, you will notice a trend in the price of an item. Generally, it will not vary much at all. Typically, those vendors will be safe to buy from. If you see one that is way off in price, just forget it. There are alot of online companies out there, where after you place the order, they will call you and try to get you to buy more stuff. It's kind of a scam operation. When you tell them you just want the widget and nothing else, they'll tell you that it's not in stock and they don't know when they'll have it in. However, there are many reputible online stores such as B&H photo, Samys, Abes, Amazon, New Egg, etc.

Barbara I've had good experiances on line, but last year in March I Was cheated out of $50.00 in S/H charges by a company called "ONE CALL' based in the state washington, I received a D80 that couldn't auto focus, $11.00 to receive it, and I $39.00 to return it (insured), they very politely informed me that that I didn't know how to use the camera. to top it off, I forgot to remove the memory card when I returned it, they claimed the slot was empty. I made the purchase through amazon. later Amazon asked me for a survey, which I gave, and Amazon never posted it.
