WIRELESS PHOTOS

I'm shooting a sweet 16 in a few months. My client asked if there was a way to transfer the pictures to a big screen (wireless) as I shoot. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

TJ

Yes, a wireless transmitter should do the trick. I know you can transmit from camera to a pc or USB storage device and I believe you may also be able to go straight to the projector if the projector is accomodating. Here is a link to B&H that have them for the Canon 40D and the 1Ds.

This link is the one that works on the 20D.

Carlton, thanks for the info! I checked them both out. i'm using the 20D. it seems that the 20D version must run through a pc network. any thoughts on finding out which projectors would be able to display the pictures as I take them?

thanks again

TJ

Do you really want everyone to see your work before you have had a chance to quality control and process them?

After reading a bit more, it appears that you will need a pc to link the images transmitted from your 20D to the projector. I have a friend who works for ESPN and also works the Portland Trailblazer games and he told me that the the AP/Sport photographers do it this way. The Blazers mainly use video cameras and the guy in the truck with all the monitors displaying all of the camera's, selects one and beams it to be broadcast on the air. With the pc connected to the projector, you would need someone manning the pc (that also has control of the big screen or is standing next to the dude that does) to grab the images you are uploading and then select an image and send it to the big screen. This would not be instantaneous but it would still be very fast. Sounds like it would be fun. Maybe I should get my friend to hook me up with that kind of gig.

Dennis....I would be using it at a sweet 16 party just for goofy candid shots that the kids could see as I was taking them. The more formal shots won't be displayed on the projector.

Carlton, thanks for looking into this for me. I did find a wireless projector at B&H. 1,700 beans! plus the transmitter...and G. this could be quite an expense. So your friend says it can be done without needing a PC network, just a laptop, wireless LCD projector and a transmitter? Sounds intresting...yes, I think it would be a good time! Know that I'm thinking about it, it may be easier and more cost effective to take 20 shots, had off the SD card to the camera guy. Let him loop those while I take a few more and switch SD cards etc.

16 year olds – to whom looks and image are EVERYTHING – who would appreciate candid, even 'goofy' shots of themselves for all their peers to see?

I think not.

  W. Smith....you have point. However it was at their request that it was done this way.

Boy was I ever off - I thought sweet sixteen was for a basketball tournament.
I have used my USB cord from my camera connected to my PC thats connected to a projector and been able to show images as I take them. I have another friend that does the Santa photography gig and he also uses this setup so that everyone can see their photo as he is printing it off. But this is not a mobile setup. There may be a projector that accepts SD/CF cards but I dont know if you would have the control or speed using this setup over a PC. With the wireless setup, I think you would have to use an assistant controlling the PC & projector.
