Online purchasing of camera equipment

For those of you that buy regularly on-line. Can you point me to sites where I can purchase camera equipment (i.e. lenses, bodies, etc) on line. What has your personal experience been with the site, etc.

Over the years, I've bought thousands of dollars worth of cameras, lenses, accessories, etc. from B&H photo.

www.bhphotovideo.com

I have never been disappointed with them. They have competitive prices, excellent customer service, and are 100% reliable. I give them my strongest recommendation.

I will second Chris' endorsement, and also tell you that I have ordered a lot of gear from Adorama camera (also in New York).

For large format gear, you can also try Badger Graphics (in Wisconsin) - they sometimes have beter prices than B&H for bigger stuff.

All of these stores are outstanding performers, though.

I'll third it. You can find cheaper but chances are the cheaper dealer is going to try to sell you something the equipment had in the first place. You can also buy from b&h with or without USA warranties (gray market) but they're all from legitimate manufacturers. Online buying requires a great deal of the old adage "buyer beware". B&H has been dealing reputably with photographers it seems, forever. Adorama is good, but I always seemed to prefer B&H.

IMHO. they're great, fast, reliable, and represent the reasons why photographers go to them in the first place. And if something goes wrong they make it right quickly. One trick to dealing with them is to make sure you know pretty much what you want before you either order online or call them to order. Otherwise, they really are great.
Take it light and seasons greetings!
Mark

I've used B&H and Adorama. Would use them again. I made the mistake of doing a google search on a certain lens, then opting for the cheapest on-line dealer...mistake...B&H and Adorama are reputable...use them!

Yes, I too enjoy browsing and drooling over the B & H catalog (you can request one from their site) and when I do buy online, I buy from B & H. Just bought the 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens and have a wishlist on their site that I am slowing chipping away at. I have also had no problems buying from Amazon but I only buy things like CF cards and software. I would only buy lenses & camera's from B&H because I trust their quality and their customer service if I happen to get something I am not happy with. Happy Holidaze Everyone :)

I have used Cameta Camera and have found them fair and quick to ship.
and refered them to firends and Those here on BP many times.

I hope this helps,

  B&H is the best!
Their inventory is extensive and they ship very fast.

I've also used e-bay for new and used lenses and accessories. A wise shopper can find really great deals there.

Deb's post here reminded me that I bought a couple of used things from Cameta Camera once and they did a good job. But you know Glen, if you're willing to consider used equipment online, (for some reason I completely forgot about that option) take a look a KEH.com. They're quite excellent too. Great prices, extremely good equipment grading standards, no hassle return policies and a 30 day warranty on just about everything they sell that's used. Over the years, I've bought a lot of used lenses from them in different formats and a few medium format and 35mm bodies;>) Never been disappointed ;>)

  Mark,
I don't believe they sell used anymore.
aT least not that I have noticed.
I have bought 4 D70s, 1 D200 and Sb 600 and Sb800s and everything went smooth and quick.
But if they do still carry used, I would surely trust buying from them.
I have bought many used pieces of camera and lghting equiptment on line and have never been burnt.
However, last Christmas, I bought a used laptop for my sons first, OH what a nightmare!
Happy holidays,
Debby

While I haven't purchased anything from the above reputed vendors, I can verify that most of the online vendors that lowball their pricing aren't trustworthy. I was originally shopping around for a Canon Digital Rebel XT/i and out of the dozens of stores that advertised tempting low prices, not one could verify the item listed for the advertised price in stock and ready for delivery. I've learned to ask if it was a USA model. The closest I came was the silver body XT with menu in Chinese, body only, no lens cover, caps, cable or battery. Three times I actually jumped and placed an order, only to have to cancel it upon verification. There should be a law. Fortunately for my tight budget, I found a Nikon D40 on eBay, advertised as used but in great condition. Apparently he later opted for a D80. What I got had to be barely out of the box, good-as-new, with GII kit lens, an extra battery, manuals & CD, and included blank USA warranty paperwork, saving me about $100+ vs the budget I set aside for an XT.
