Good Scenic shot lens?

My husband loves to take scenic shots. We have a Canon Digital Rebel with the basic lens it came with. I would like to buy him a new lens for Christmas, so I am wondering what is a a good scenic shot lens?

Thanks

  Hello Brooke,

Scenics are generally best captured with wide angle lenses.
Something starting at 18mm up to 28mm
Single focal lenth lenses are called (Prime) lenses..and the really good ones are quite pricey.

A better choice would be a telephoto with a range starting at 18mm and perhaps maxing out around 100mm

all the best,

Pete

  Hi Brooke...
I am a Brooke also. I recently got a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and I really like it. It is a little short on the telephoto end, but the price is great and it is a sharp lens. I think I paid about $400 for it. Another good walk around, general purpose lens I like is the Canon 28-135mm IS. This one is a little short on the wide angle side, but is good on the telephoto side. If your husband generally shoots landscapes, you are probably better off going with the wider angle. If you have a larger budget, check out the L series lenses. I haven't come across one that I don't like. If you have questions about specific lenses once you narrow it down - post those here. I am sure someone will be able to give you first hand advice. Good luck!
