Troubleshooting a S2 PRO FinePix

I am helping a friend out with figuring out her new camera she has. It is a Fujifilm S2 PRO FinePix. I have been working with cameras for years and have my own digital SLR for a couple years.

After spending hours I was able to get the all the settings standard. And got to know the camera pretty good. However when I take a picture it takes a blank picture. It is a black picture that shows up in the view finder. I even took out the memory card and put it on the computer to see if the pictures did actually take but the view finder is damaged. The pictures though are blank/black screen.

I have tried everything that I can think of to get it to actually take a picture. I'm hoping that someone on here might be able to help me.

Has anyone had this problem with this or another camera? And what was the reason?

The lense on it is a Nikon AF NIKKOR 50MM 1:1.8D I'm not familiar enough with this lense to know if it is compatible with this camera.

I would appreciate ANY help and advice.

  Deborah,
I have owned the Fuji S2 for years and have never had this happen.
This camera had to have been purchased used, I would suggest contacting Fuji to trouble shoot this.

Try to remove the lens, set the camera to Manual mode and set the shutter speed to, say, a few seconds. Look through the lens mount when pressing the shutter release. You should see the mirror flip up and the shutter opens. If the mirror does not flip up or the shutter is damaged or stuck, that may cause the black image. Hope this helps.
