How to combine 2 pictures of the same scene... I have an idea for a picture, and it's potentially going to be the album art for my band's upcoming debut full length album. (www.lastmartyrsofalostcause.com) The name of the album is gonna be "Sunrays to Starlight" (after one of our songs) and the idea is to have a duality in the picture, day time and night time. The same scene, however, split in half, because the day time will have some partying going on, people drinking outta red cups and chillin, the other half, the evening scene, will have a more sophisticated party and people dressed up. The kicker, is to put our lead singer, smack dab in between both pictures. Half of his body dressed for the day time, the other dressed for the night, and his head fully in one, cause that would look weird to split his head up. Anyone have any ideas other than like using a blue screen? I'm kinda stuck...

Well, I mean stuck as in, im not sure how to go about this... My thoughts were, to take 2 pictures of the scene, one in day time, and one in night. Then take pictures of the people behind a blue screen and insert them into the photographs. But, im worried that photoshopping to much might result in a really "fake" "photoshopped" looking picture. My other thought was to take the day time picture, with the partying going on on the left side...and then take the same picture at night, with partying going on on the right side...then the only person I would photoshop would be our lead singer in the middle, inbetween both pictures... i hope im not being too confusing!

Alright, here's what you do. Setup a camera on a tripod in the location that you want it. have the lead singer stand in the middle where you want him. now mark the ground somehow EXACTLY how you want him standing, direction facing and stuff. now take your picture during the daylight party. concentrate for the daylight scene on the left side and make sure it's what you want. I say this because you probably want the daylight on the right and the night on the left because the average north american viewer reads left to right, so it will transition smoothly to go from day to night, left to right. anyways get your picture. now make sure throughout the day/evening nobody touches your camera on tripod or your marking for the lead singer. when its nighttime, concentrate on the right side of the frame now and get your night shot. shoot a little wider than what you want your final image to be so if you have to line up the images you have room to play. open them both in photoshop, combine, line up, and you should be set to go! have fun, sounds like a fun project!

Thanks a lot man...thats the choice I was thinking of going with... I didn't wanna have to photoshop in all these damn people... if I get the go ahead from the rest of the guys in the band and we pull this off, i'll be sure to post it thanks for your help

This would be way easier to do in photoshop by starting with a base layer (day pic) and then create an empty layer mask and paste the other (night pic) and then use the brush tool to reveal the layer underneath. This way you can leave the singer in the middle and paint around him. You also have use of the opacity controls doing it this way.
