Photo op for ALL, tonight!

(and in the next couple of nights)

Comet 17P/Holmes, a relatively obscure and (until a few days ago) dim object, has suddenly flared to be literally a million times brighter, going from magnitude 18 to 2.8. It is just outside of the constellation Perseus, which puts it high in the sky and ideal for viewing at this time of year. The comet still appears starlike even in binoculars but should grow to several arcminutes across over the next few nights. The comet is now readily visible to the naked eye. This is a completely unexpected once-in-a-lifetime event, so get out your finest optics (even if it's just your eyes) and go comet watching!

I just called the National Star Registry and paid $75 to rename this star...Comet 17P/Oliver Anderson...Holmes didn't pay $75 so his name didn't count. A portion of all proceeds made from selling photos of MY star will go to me...good side biz.

Good side biz?
Only if you manage to actually collect.
Until then it's wishful thinking.
Sofar you look more like a wannabe grafitti 'artist' who chose an impossible object to attach his 'tag' to.
(A tag that's far too long anyway. How about just 'Oli' . . . ).

  Oliver,
I am selling rights to name pixels in my camera...Much cheaper than the National Star Registry. I'll send you a chart showing your pixel with the name you've chosen, and I promise to include the listing on some obscure web page on my website. Just $5/pixel! You can buy a block of pixels, get a discount and occupy more space on my sensor. A 10x10 block of pixels -- normally a $500 value goes for just half price ($250)!!

How many blocks can I sign you up for?

Hmmmm, I was heading to Costco...but maybe I'll buy the pixels instead. Brownie Bites or pixels...and discount wine??? give me some time.

Didn't some kid do that on a website and make tons of dough...don't laugh I might be onto something here.JK I mean its not like I'm trading a paperclip for a house...Duhhh that idea was taken to.

I posted a photo into the current contest, took a photo of the comet tonight (11/20/07) still fairly bright, but also very dim, but turned out ok for not having a telescope and a cheapo (old sigma) 300mm lens. :)
