Bought Elements - One question now Looked at it as much as I could last night with the time I had but I want to make sure that I am correct in what I am trying to do - "layers". For example, I have a picture of a beautiful cloud with sun rays shooting out of the top. What if I wanted to put a motorcycle in these rays? Is this layering? Or am I looking at the wrong type of manipulation? by the way - this site is wonderful. I have learned so much reading on this site and just recently started posting. thanks, deb

Yes, you put another layer (the motorcycle picture) on top of the main photo.

Debbie, You will likely want to use layers to do this sort of thing. It can get a bit complex to create convincing manipulations, and the one you suggest here may not be terribly simple. My layers book and course (leveraging layers here on betterphoto) can help you learn more about what to do with layers and how they work. This type of rays-from-the-sun effect may actually be easier to re-create than to adapt from an existing image. This would be accomplished by making a noisy gradient fill and reducing the opacity. I hope that helps!

Here's another photo editor. For Windows. Does layers, apparently. And is FREE! http://www.getpaint.net http://www.getpaint.net/download.html#Download
