Heads for tripod

So with different tripods, what heads are recommended to use?
say with Gitzo, Manfrotto, Slik, Gittos, Velbon,.... what kind of head do you prefer to use?
say for traveler tripods, hiking around, heavy gear and so...

Heavy duty ball heads with quick release plates for the head and camera body. Linhof Profi series is what I use in series II and II on Gitzo pods. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably go with either FOBA or Arca Swiss because I like the receiver on the tripod better, but that's just my preference. Pricey stuff, all of them, but you get what you pay for.

If you want to get an idea of what's available in brackets and releases, take a look at http://www.reallyrightstuff.com or b&h of course. Here's a link for you to follow. http://reallyrightstuff.com/ballheads/index.html
Take it light ;>)

  Hi Mark,
Thank you very much.

Yes, I got some people advised me to look at ball heads, some told me about RRS as you did above, but most recommending Markings ball heads, so if I will use a tripod just for light or medium things then should I keep thinking on ball head as well?
When I will get another Gitzo CF tripod for heavy duty loads then definitely I will get Wimberley gimbal head no doubt.

I have quick release plates on ALL my cameras and ball heads mounted on my three tripods. I use one or the other every time I shoot, which is at least a few times a week.

Hi Mark, a quick release is not a problem at all, I can get a quick release easily, but each ballhead need different quick release, so I have to choose a head first then quick release is not a problem.
By the way, when I was in my last vacation shooting beside a photographer who was using a ball head I didn't feel I like the ball head, so I don't know how many people like it and prefer it over other heads [3-way, geared,...etc], I am not talking about the quick release plate.

No, actually you don't need a different QR fir each head. One will suffice for all your tripods or ball heads or both. It just threads onto the top of whatever ballhead you're using or whatever tripod you're using at the time.

I have multiple QR plates because I use them so often on different camera bodies it becomes too time consuming or awkward for me to be changing them on the run. That's just my preference is all. You don't have to do it that way.

Sorry, I mean mark, I don't know why most of my questions answered by Mark and John.
Forgive me this silly mistake, and I think it is a good way to keep people responding for mistakes ;-)
