Sigma makes good lenses for the most part and I haven't heard anything negative about this particular lens. Note, however, that Adorama is out of stock and not taking orders for it. Take a look at bhphotovideo.com for the same lens, check their prices and availability. You pretty much can't beat B&H especially if you know what you're looking for. Take it light. Mark

Evan and Mark, just a small point: Adorama is indeed out of stock; however, they are taking orders. John

These two lenses are Sigma's "kit" lenses for digital cameras. I owned them (still own the 18-50) and while they're decent, lenses are like everything else. You get what you pay for. If you don't want to spend more money, then the Sigmas are a good deal and will give you a lot of value. Use them at stops between f/5.6 and f/11 to get the best out of them. In my gallery, my 'Clipped Wings' and 'Cannon Beach' panoramas were made with the 18-50 lens. If you want to get the best out of your camera, you will eventually want to step up to better lenses. In the Sigma line, their 18-50/2.8 EX DG Macro and 50-150/2.8 EX APO lenses are fantastic lenses that will really show you how good of a camera you have. Yes, they cost more... but remember that the lens is the single most important contributor to image quality.
