How to get a retro 80's style photo

I have been asked to take some photographs for a band. They are looking for a retro 80's style photograph. We already know what the setup will be but I am looking for that cheesy 80's look of the picture itself. I thought about using film for the type of look but don't know how digital may work. Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you!

I think the cheese-factor had so much more to do with the costumes, hair, poses & settings, than the particular film choice... (But I've not shot with film much at all, so I don't know how that could have affected the images 20 years ago.) I see Big hair, torn/ripped clothes, lots of big shoulders, skinny ties, studded jackets, parachute pants, and neon props... shot at off-horizontal angles? perhaps check out album covers from the big 80's bands for inspiration?

Thank you! I have already looked at some band pictures for ideas but will check out some albums. Thanks again!

What about a washed out color - to look like a worn out older photo? Any suggestions on filters or settings in PS?
